GE-119. LAND SURVEYING

LABORATORY EXERCISE NO. 4

RELOCATION SURVEY.

I. PROBLEM:
1. Perform a relocation survey via best fit method.

II. OBJECTIVE:
1. Perform common point analysis by observing (actual) proofs of ownership versus
(Theoretical) researched data.

III. INSTRUMENTS AND ACCESSORIES:

1. Total station 5. Field book
2. Tripod
3. 2 x Range poles
4. 2 x Prism targets

IV. PROCEDURE:
1. Densify your traverse. Use your own controls.
2. Recover and observe ALL proofs of ownership on site. This may be in the form of
cylindrical, concrete monuments and/or well-established, concrete fences. In our case, stakes.
3. Plot your observed corners, and connect the lines for the boundaries of ALL the lots
observed with proofs of ownership. You may plot in CAD software.
4. Research all the data required for your observation. Research all the lots concerned.
Research area is MH 208.
5. Plot your researched data. No loose ends. Close your lots, and create the jigsaw puzzle.
6. Perform your common point analysis by comparing your observed vs. the researched data.

V. COMPUTATIONS AND DELIVERABLES:

1. Common point analysis.
2. Drawing file showing both (researched + observed) data.
3. Setting computation for your required lot assignment. Use your own densified traverses.

VI. REMARKS, HINTS, AND PRECAUTIONS:

1. This exercise is a group work. Reports shall be made and submitted per group.
2. Reports shall be submitted in hardcopies, A4 size. Include in your report the photographs of
your control points and lot corners observed.
3. This exercise is good for 100 points and shall be submitted on 23 March 2018 together with
Laboratory exercise no. 1.
4. REMEMBER: RELOCATION SURVEY IS A COMPROMISE BETWEEN THE
TRUTH AND THE ACTUAL. IF YOU CANNOT “BEST FIT” THE TWO, THEN FIND
ANOTHER REFERENCE. Refer to the Manual for maximum differences in positions.
