ABSTRACT
Evaporation is the process through the exchange of water molecules in the atmosphere
or events or changes in water ice to vapor in the air. The example of evaporation is obtain salt
from sea water. In this experiment authors try to obtain salt from model of sea water. The
method that use to conduct this experiment is evaporation process.

Key words: Evaporation, salt, obtain, sea water.

INTRODUCTION
Evaporation is the process through the exchange of water molecules in the atmosphere
or events or changes in water ice to vapor in the air. Evaporation occurs in each state until
the air temperature at the soil surface becomes saturated with water vapor. (Separation
process priciples : Christie John Geankoplis)

Evaporation process consists of two events that took place:

1. Interface evaporation, is the transformation of water into water vapor at the surface of the
ground. This value depends on the energy stored.
2. Vertical vapor transfers, the transfer layer is fed by moisture from the steam to the interface
(free atmosphere).
The size of the evaporation of free water level is influenced by several factors:
1. Humidity (more humid the less evaporation)
2. Air pressure
3. Depth and surface area, the more extensive the greater evaporation
4. Water quality, more and more elements of chemistry, biology and physic (Christie John
Geankoplis,2003)
Salt particles move about the water. Each particle is surrounded by water molecules.
The water particles (molecules) keep the salt particles from rearranging themselves back into
a salt crystal. Salt particles are carried throughout the solution surrounded by water particles.
As the water evaporates less and less water molecules are present to keep the salt particles
apart. The salt therefore recrystalises and can be collected. (Charles Donald Holland,2005)

MATERIALS AND METHOD

In this experiment, the materials that use are 30 mL of water and 3.855 gram of salt.
The method of this experiment, first weighed the salt and then mixed with water. Second,
water mixture is poured into a porcelain bacin. Third, heater is turned up to 1300C. After that,
wait until the water evaporates and the salt just left alone. The last is salt weighed.

RESULT
In this experiment authors measured the mass of salt before and after conduct
experiment. The mass of salt after experiment heavier than the mass of salt before practice.
Before practice the mass is 3.855 grams, but after practice the mass is 4.233.

DISCUSSION
From the result, in the first experiment, the mass of the salt was increase after heated,
because after heated salt contains more water. The salt can obtain because in the method of
separation of evaporation, boiling solvents that evaporate completely and leave the solute.

CONCLUSION
From this experiment, it can be conclude that the salt can be obtain from model of sea
water with evaporation.
