Heal Wounds in Harmony

Heal Wounds in Harmony

Grand Kawanua Convention Centre

North Sulawesi

Manado, 6th – 8th June 2013

Introduction
Wounds are skin and soft tissue damage due to its discontinuity caused by trauma,
surgery, neuropathic factor, metabolic disorder, vascular problem and pressure. It is commonly
found in our daily life. Wounds can be classified as acute and chronic. Acute wound is acquired
as a result of trauma or an operative which is able to get healed well in two weeks period if no
complication occurs. In the other hand, chronic wound fails to heal in a predictable amount of
time the way most wound do, it is not responding well to therapies and high rate of recurrence.
The wound-healing process consists of three highly integrated and overlapping phases:
These phases and their bio-physiological functions must occur in the proper sequence, at a
specific time, and continue for a specific duration at an optimal intensity. Many factors can
interfere of one or more phases of this process, thus causing improper or impaired wound
healing. Wounds that exhibit impaired healing, including delayed acute wounds and chronic
wounds, generally have failed to progress through the normal stages of healing.
Most chronic wounds are ulcers that are associated with ischemia, diabetes mellitus,
venous stasis disease, or pressure. There is an incidence of approximately 8.5 million pressure
ulcers in the world that require treatment every year. This condition needs proper wound
management to make the wounds heal. Wound management techniques are also used for a
number of other conditions including amputations, carcinomas, melanomas, and other
complicated skin cancers, which is recently an increase.
Wound healing disruption may lead to prolonged suffering from wound which make the
patients severe physically and emotionally stress as well as creating a significant financial
burden on patients, his family, people surroundings him and whole healthcare system.
Wound management in Indonesia generally still follows conventional methods, in which
treatment utilizes Na-Cl 0, 9%, antiseptics, antibiotics and simple dressings. . We recorded
(2012) that there are approximately 25 hospitals throughout Indonesia, mostly in Java, which
have applied modern wound dressing. This number represents only 2, 47% of all the hospitals in
Indonesia (1012 hospitals).

Modern wound management method needs to be inform widely throughout Asia-

Pacific region that’s include Indonesia, so the management of chronic wound will
become standardize, revised and progress. And the health services people such as doctors,
nurses and others professional health in Indonesia need to be made aware of the
disadvantages that can arise from wounds with prolonged healing. The aim for patients with
chronic wound will be taking care with updated treatment and not unnecessary prolonged
suffer.
The 2nd Asia-Pacific Wound Care Congress is one among others pathway to full fill this
dream, to make people with complex and difficult wound can do daily activity and get well as
soon as possible.

President Of Indonesian Wound Healing Society
Welcome Message

Dear colleagues,

In any natural disaster the damaging forces must be identified and stopped before repair work
can begin. So too in wound care the basic underlying causes and factors that affect healing
must be identified and controlled as best we can before wound healing. In many cases the
underlying causes and factors interfering with wound healing may be multifactorial.
We are all connected by our involvement with our patients, our healthcare settings, the desire
to acquire new knowledge, the government agencies that regulate our care, and the various
overarching organizations.
Together, we work toward a common goal: to stop amputations and decrease number and
severity of all types’ wounds. With this in mind, we expect The 2nd Asia Pacific Wound Care
Congress 2013 and Inaugural of Indonesian Wound Healing Society to meet your educational
and professional needs.

See you in Manado in June 2013
