SPECIAL NOTE WITH YOUR EXECUTIVE TEAM MEMBERS

PRESIDENT JULIANNE AND SECRETARY PAULA

We hope that everyone had a great Easter being it falling on April

Fools Day and all! We would like to thank Nancy from My Sister’s
Place for donating a wonderful Easter Basket that we sold raffle
tickets for but will draw the basket the first week of April!

My Sister’s Place is great to us always helping us with finding Bingo

prizes for our Tuesday Bingo. We are enjoying the special things at
MSP that we get to buy with our special fund from Assumption
Church and Nancy Valentine! We are so thrilled to have the place and
money to have great bingo’s each week! MSP has everything you can
want and more too!
We can’t wait for the real spring to show itself too! We are tired of
the cold bring on the warmth! Paula and me are waiting to plant in
our gardens too, we love this time of year!

Our pool table is popular and many members are really into playing
pool at our club and lately at other clubs like Milford and New Haven.

Our Corn Beef Lunch went well and we had a so much to eat we
needed a nap afterwards. Thanks to the staff and our special
volunteer Mike Barone who helps us on big dinners. Thanks to all the
other members who pitched in to help clean up like Peggy K, Paula B.
John L, and Zak B. we really appreciated it too! We were really tired
when it was all said and done!

Congrats to all the grant winners this time

around we had nine of our members get
Continuum Grants of New Haven. They will
have lots of fun doing them.
So Happy Easter and Passover!
PAY YOURSELF A COMPLIMENT!
Positive Thinking!! Repeat after us “Today is my day!, I’m thankful for me.”
Positive self talk can help you focus on what is good in your life. Research shows
that Vitamin G (for gratitude) can make you feel happier and more satisfied, even
improve your sleep. “If you repeat an affirmation related to gratitude in the
morning you're likely to show and feel more of it throughout that day, says Joy
Harden Bradford, PHD. “You're so welcome!

A PARTING NOTE! FROM TRUDY HIGGINS!
This note is from Trudy. She left in February and it goes out to all our members!

I can’t thank you enough for the incredible video that you
made for me upon my retirement. It really touched my heart!

You said such beautiful things that truly brought tears to my

eyes. I so appreciate your thoughtful sentiments.

I will certainly miss seeing you once I retire, but I will hold
the precious memories of our work together over the past 27
years. May God bless each and every one of you always.

Fondly,

Trudy

BHcare Believed in Me
BHcare has saved my life more than once. I had graduated from their Intensive Outpatient
Program (IOP) back in 2013. I was on the right track and for the first time in my life, I started
feeling better about myself. I stayed clean and sober for over two years and life was good.

Then my past caught up with me. I found myself in trouble with the law and had to deal with a
court case in another town. Since I was put on probation, I had to stay in that town for a
while. It threw me off track. I got depressed and was full of fear. I relapsed for a week and
tried a local IOP program but it did not work for me. I knew I had to get back to BHcare and
finish the good work they started. My sister even insisted that I go back to BHcare. She saw
the difference they made in my life.

I enrolled in BHcare IOP again. Things started to look up and I once again began to feel
wonderful about myself. My case worker kept it real for me. She kept me grounded and
focused on working on bettering myself. I worked hard and could see it was all uphill from
here.

My case worker referred me to the Recovery Academy to become a

recovery coach. She believed I could do it and that I would be very
good at it. She even found funding through BHcare for me to
enroll in the course.

A lot goes into becoming a recovery. I learned so much about peo-

ple in recovery and I learned even more about myself. Becoming a
recovery coach is my way to give back and help others. I hope to
continue my education in this field and look forward to the next
step. I am so glad for BHcare help. I’m not only in recovery but will
be helping others in their recovery, too. ~ David

From Bright Horizon’s Winter 2018

A Few Words from our VP Sylvia H.
Spring has arrived and Easter was April 1st, It’s what we have all been waiting for.
Right , Nicer weather and being able to get out of the house more. If you think of it,
try making a trip down to VSC and check out what’s going on. Sign up and get
involved. I’d like to thank a MSP Volunteer, Barbara for our wonderful Easter Basket
that she herself made and raffled off. Thank you Barbara. I’d like to thank MSP
also, for allowing the club to choose items for a few special bingo’s all made
possible by a donation, recently. We still have enough money for a few more
bingo’s. In doing so, we are giving back by helping others (UCDV Department) as
we are enjoying all that made this possible. A couple of side notes: May is Mental
Health Month is in the next few months and the Poetry Contest has already started.
This year’s theme is “ Positive Attitudes”. Jacques is taking submissions for the
contest so be sure to get your entry in. (All entries too receive participation no
velties just for entering). Secondly, I have been told the Renter’s Rebate will
happen and as of April, they will be taking applications. Be sure to apply for that
little bit of money for paying your rent, receiving social security and paying your
utility bills, as these are requirements. Be happy and enjoy the nice weather!
Remember everyday is a good day!
