PowerLap EZ nominated for prestigious Technological Innovation Award

Portable, light, safe, easy to install and remove, and strictly “plug & play”, Malaysian company SmartPools
Sdn Bhd today launched its PowerLap EZ propulsion system that will give any existing swimming pool the
versatility of an aquatic/swimming treadmill.

In unveiling the Malaysian designed, patented and manufactured PowerLap EZ at the Piscina BCN
International Swimming Pool Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain in conjunction with the company’s European
sales debut, the product was also nominated for the prestigious Technological Innovation Award.

The PowerLap EZ is powered by a revolutionary Laminar Propulsion System (LPS) that is capable of
moving up to 30,000 litres of water per minute at low pressure to create a non-turbulent, bubble-free and
smooth flow current for a more natural swimming experience. In contrast, pressure-driven water pump
systems used in existing aquatic/swimming treadmills available in the market only move 2,000 liters of
water per minute, and create a highly turbulent and rough swimming experience.

The Laminar Propulsion System (LPS) was first introduced 18 months ago with the launch of another
Malaysian conceptualized product the SmartPool, which has made it possible for the conventional
swimming pool to be scaled down to measure just 4.5 metre x 2.4 metre requiring only 12.07 sq m of
space.

Fully speed-adjustable, and suitable for beginners and experienced athletes, the Laminar Propulsion
System (LPS) transforms the space-saver SmartPool into an aquatic/swimming treadmill enabling hours
of swimming within the convenience of one’s own home/premises.

“The PowerLap EZ was designed to make this technology portable enabling it to be enjoyed in existing
swimming pools, enhancing its appeal, versatility and enjoyment factor,” said SmartPools Sdn Bhd
Executive Director Faizan Khan.

SmartPools is the exclusive global license holder of the SmartPool technology and is a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Ascenteus Holdings Sdn Bhd that developed and owns the technology.

“Being nominated for the award is also an honor for us as much as it is acknowledgement of the
SmartPool brand and product acceptance,” said Faizan. The Technological Innovation Award is
presented to a product that represents a major contribution by way of a new approach to the construction
process, use or maintenance of swimming-pools, wellness centres and recreational sports facilities.

Regarded as the biggest international swimming pool wellness, and sports and recreational facility
trade show, Piscina BCN – organised once every two years – has attracted some 400 companies from
over 30 countries. The show’s traditional exhibits include swimming pools; physical and chemical water
treatment; wellness, fitness, spas and hydrotherapy baths; covers; and purification (filters and pumps),
among other products. The exhibition ends on 23 October 2009.

In just 18 months after its introduction, the SmartPool range of products today commands sales and after
sales presence in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) and in Qatar.

With the versatility of being used for lifestyle and recreational purposes, or for therapeutic, medical,
rehabilitative and professional athletic applications, the SmartPool is today found in both residential and
commercial properties, from individually-owned apartment and condominium units, bungalows and villas,
to private clubs, gymnasiums, hotels and other premises where space may be of constraint.
