0 Introduction
This geotechnical engineering report is for the proposed multi-story building complex to be
constructed by Oil Company. It includes:

• A soil profile of 2 cross sections • Inspection of the Undrained Shear

running across the construction area Strength of all layers in the soil profile
• Inspection of the Atterberg Limit • Results of Casagrande and
and Water Content Data for the soil Schmertmann Adjustments to the
profile Consolidation Data calculated

The purpose of this research is to produce recommendations for:

• Suitability of design soil profile for the site
• The appropriate type and size of foundation based on the soil parameters, the structural
applied loadings and safety factors.
2.0 Project Information
2.1 Project Description
Map of site See Appendix
Section Load Range Floor Elevation
Three-story computer center 500 to 900-kips El. 98
Maximum Loads Four-story annex with a one- 750 to 1100- El. 100
story basement kips Basement El. 85

One-story atrium 80 to 150-kips El. 98

This report compromises of phase IV of soil investigation – Laboratory

Testing. It includes a complete analysis of the soil properties of all the
Scope layers in the cross section under study.
Phase two and three has been completed by a consultant, and therefore not
included in this report. Structural design of the foundations is also not
included.
2.2 Site Location & Description
Location Intersection of Greens Road and Ella Boulevard, Houstan, Texas,
77067, United States of America. A Google Earth Map is included
in Appendix A.
Ground Cover Unoccupied, relatively flat lot covered with grass, shrubs, and a
few clusters of trees.
Topography Site maps display the ground elevation in the building area ranges
from El. 95.0 to El. 97.0.

3.0 Site Investigation

The cross sections were selected to ensure maximum are is covered
Describe the site investigation program in detail, the number of boreholes, depths of boreholes and any
in-situ testing conducted. Also describe how you analyzed the boring logs and came up with a composite
soil profile for the site. Synthesize the in-situ test data (e.g. SPT blow counts versus depth) in a suitable
manner. This section should include: a. Figure showing Layout of Borings b. Map of the site showing
selected cross-sections c. Figures showing side-by-side comparison of boring logs on selected sections d.
Composite soil profile that you developed as a result of your data review

Describe the lab test program and the results obtained. Include any plots of soil property versus depth.
Also include consolidation test results. Discuss any trends observed in the data and implications.
Perform necessary adjustments to the consolidation plots and obtain compressibility parameters. This
section should include: a. Plot of total unit weight versus depth/elevation b. Plot of LL, PL and natural
water content versus depth/elevation c. Plot of undrained shear strength versus depth/elevation d.
