Piston Cooling Solenoid, Replacement

You must read and understand the precautions and


guidelines in Service Information, group 20, "General
Safety Practices, Engine" before performing this
procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified
in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before
you perform it.

Removal

Remove all battery cables from ground (negative)
terminals to prevent personal injury from electric shock.

Open the hood.

Clean the area around the piston cooling solenoid.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the piston cooling
solenoid. Remove the fasteners and remove the piston
cooling solenoid from the oil filter housing.

Note: Catch any oil that drains from the housing in an


approved container.

Installation

Clean the solenoid contact surface on the oil filter
housing.

Lubricate a new O-ring with clean engine oil and install
onto the piston cooling solenoid.

Install the piston cooling solenoid into the oil filter housing.
Install the mounting fasteners and tighten to specification.

Connect the wiring harness to the piston cooling solenoid.

Install all previously removed cables to ground (negative)
battery terminals.

Start the engine and check for leaks.

Close the hood.
