Rationale

Moringa oleifera (M.oleifera) is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Moringa,
which is the only genus in the family Moringaceae. It is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree,
native to the southern foothills of the Himalayas in northwestern India, and widely cultivated in
tropical and subtropical areas where its young seed pods and leaves are used as vegetables. It can
also be used for water purification and hand washing, and is sometimes used in herbal medicine.

Ampalaya is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae, widely grown in
Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean for its edible fruit. Its scientific name is Momordica charantia
(M.charantia).The fruit has a distinct warty exterior and an oblong shape. The fruit is most often
eaten green, or as it is beginning to turn yellow. At this stage, the fruit's flesh is crunchy and
watery in texture, but bitter. It is an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, and B3, C, and rich in
iron.

Background of the study

The Ampalaya-Malunggay soap is an example of an anti-aging and whitening soap. One of

its benefits is the suppleness of skin after using the soap. Moringa-O2 combines powerful multi-
vitamins, antioxidants and minerals from Malunggay, Olive Oil and Omega to deeply nourish
and moisturize dry and sensitive skin. Moringa-O2 is best recommended for those with the
following skin conditions for dry and sensitive skin, itchy skin, Aging skin, skin asthma and
Keratosis Pilari.

Question to be addressed

The investigatory project will seek to answer the following questions:

a. It is possible to make organic soap out of ampalaya and malunggay?

b. It is effective to our skin by using this organic soap?
c. What are the benefits of organic soap?
Expected outcomes/ Hypothesis

In this investigatory project, it is expected to:

a. Encourage the Filipino people to use or create this organic soap.

b. Helps us to be healthy by using this soap to our skin.

Significance of the study

The importance of this study is to use two of the healthiest and most unnoticeable
vegetables as skin care soaps. This experiment helps us to be healthy by using this soap to our
skin. The researcher want to prove others that malunggay and ampalaya are not vegetables but it
can also help us on being healthy by using this as soap. Skin is one of the body parts that keep us
healthy .To take care of our skin, we daily use soaps to clean off those dirt, odors, and germs. We
need to wash away the germs to prevent it from getting under the surface of our skin.

Methodology

These are the methods and materials that the researchers used in making the organic soap such
as follows:

Things you will need:

 One whole Ampalaya (Bitter gourd)

 One whole Malunggay
 55 grams of lye
 200ml of mineral water
 500ml of Coconut oil
 200ml of Lavender Fragrance oil
 6 round stainless molds
 Glass Stirring rod
 Glass meeasuring cup
 2 Large pots
 Blender
Process:

Cut one whole Ampalaya into pieces with a knife and set it aside. Take the Malunggay
leaves off its stem. After that, Separate the Ampalaya and Malunggay into two separate bowls
and blend them separately in the blender. Put a little water in the Ampalaya. Drop 55 grams of
lye into 200 millimeters of water. Mix it until the mixtures cloudy appearance disappears. While
the lye is almost ready, put 500 millimeters of Coconut oil in a pot to heat. When the oil was
heated, put it in a separate bowl and slowly put the lye with it. Mix it for one and a half hour. Put
the blended Ampalaya and minced Malunggay into the mixture. Stir it again with a spoon until it
becomes one whole green liquid base. Add ¾ of a 20 millimeters of Lavander scented fragrance
oil to the mixture. Pour it into molders and set aside with a cloth on the top of the molds. After a
few days, take them out of their molds and set it in a dry place.

Risk Assessment

During the experimentation, no hazardous chemicals or activities were involved, but safety
measures were given as follows:

 Wash hands in hot, soapy water before and after handling food, particularly raw meats.
Use paper towels to dry hands.
 Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose for sneezes or coughs, and turn away from
food while coughing or sneezing. Wash hands right away after a cough or sneeze.
 Keep electrical appliances away from water to avoid shocks. Stay away from electrical
sockets, especially if your hands are wet, and instruct children not to put their fingers or
hands anywhere near sockets.
 Turn the oven off and unplug all cooking appliances before leaving the kitchen. Never
leave an oven or stove on or with the door open for room heat.
