According to TESDA(2008) certification is provided to those who meets the competency
standards. This ensures the productivity, quality and global competitiveness of the middle-level workers. TESDA has a Registry of Certified Workers which provides information on the pool of certified workers in certain occupations nationwide. TESDA also has accredited assessment centers as well as the competency assessors who conduct competency assessment process for persons applying for certification. The culinary arts is a course that needs to be examined more closely to ensure that skills and competencies taught are those that will actually be needed when students matriculate from career preparation programs. In this premise the researcher’s yearning is to assess the concerns and issues in the need of the Industry. At present, the perspective of the hospitality industry is the problem of skills and job mismatch. Hospitality students who will graduate today face many challenges when finding a job in the today’s competitive job market. Graduates must the expectations of the industry. Questions arise on how education is responding to industry. Academic Hospitality programs are designed to teach the skills that will prepare them to be competitive in the workplace. These skills should enable the graduate to manage the rapidly changing demands in today’s hospitality industry addressing increased competition, changing consumer attitudes and employer demands (Wood, 2003).
