t h o s e fo r o t h e r c o m p o n e n t s of th e s y s t e m . The p r o p o s e d l i m i t s h a v e b e e n show n
to h a v e r e a s o n a b l e s a f e t y f a c t o r s at 70 *F and at 1200 ®F on the b a s i s o f e x p e r i ­
m e n t a l d ata f r o m t e s t s e v a l u a t e d h e r e i n .

T e s t d a ta h a v e b e e n p r e s e n t e d and so e v a lu a t e d a s to p r o v id e a b a s i s for
e c o n o m i c o p t i m i z a t i o n o f a l l o w a b l e s t r e s s e s in a p p lic a t i o n s o th e r than p ip in g
sy stem s.

T h e e f f e c t of i n s t a b i l i t y in d u c e d by i n t e r n a l p r e s s u r e upon b en d in g s t r e s s e s
and s p r in g r a t e h a s b e e n e v a l u a t e d a n a l y t i c a l l y and o b s e r v e d in e x p e r i m e n t a l
d ata. T h is e f f e c t h a s b e e n c o m p e n s a t e d f o r in the p r o p o s e d a n a ly t ic a l m.ethod.
