BACKGROUND:
We are born in a world that is given to us. Its contents, its character and its
cultural values go on changing with time and they influence our lives.
The given world is transactional in its character, survival oriented and self-
centered. Routine is what governs this world. Daily we get up in the morning,
go for a morning walk or to the gym or for yoga to keep good health -some
people do not even do this-have breakfast, go to work, return to see TV and
sleep. Years go by and this routine does not allow us to have a glimpse of
anything higher than our small self in life.
Routine life is a life of dependence. Everything we do, feel and think does not
depend on us. When we want to change our life, it is the environment that
changes us. We live and go on living since we are in situation of living. We
are governed by all that is compulsory - morning to evening. Routine takes
away from us the biggest thing that human being possess - freedom to make
a choice! That means it is not within our choice to do or experience
something new, something higher than ourselves, something very
profound. We are imprisoned by small compulsions and habits in life.
If we do nothing even after knowing this, life will continue to exist with inner
dissatisfaction - although outside circumstances can be quite comfortable for
some among us - and someday it can end in the same state. That would be
tragic.
The big falsehood, the big contradiction of a routine life is that it gives us a
compelling feeling that we have no choice, that we cannot do anything to
change our lives. We tend to give very superficial excuses about how life has
bound us in its routine and why there is no possibility of creating time.
Yet it is a common experience that we desire deep within us a compelling
necessity for a change. But somehow it so happens that our one ‘I’ tells us to
change and the other ‘I’ says that there is no possibility of a change. This
creates an inner conflict, an invisible stress that fills us with a feeling of
dissatisfaction with life.
The school realizes this as a fact of life world over and proposes to common
men, without any discrimination, a significant possibility of experiencing an
inner force far deeper than what we experience in daily life. Touching
and experiencing such a force can give us a glimpse of an altogether new
way of being in our daily world of living. It can change significantly our
view of who we are and where we can go. It can
change the very meaning of our life by filling it with new content, new
awareness, new comprehension of our possibilities. If one does not have an
idea of how the divine is felt within us, one can now experience a glimpse
of it. This is called experience of ‘The Profound’ - an experience of
something by far much deeper than what we have ever experienced in
life!
This is the proposal. This is why we have come together here. Even though we
are small in number, significance of our togetherness is extraordinary because
we have come here to discover a new meaning of our life.

Prior to starting the work on Discipline, it is important to study the factors that
can prevent one’s work on it. This study would involve understanding of:
Relaxation:
Self-Knowledge:
How to know ourselves, our life situations, our values, our biography and how
to plan our life.
Psycho-physical Gymnastics:
How we can understand relationship between our body and mind and how we
can alter those aspects that hinder our growth. It involves activating our
centers of response in our body-mind organization and giving them a
direction.
Material Discipline
It works on experimenting with different elements like
mercury, silver, sulphur etc. Understanding of this alchemy has
a parallel with one’s inner life. This comprehension opens
the possibility of touching the profound. It requires a
laboratory work.
Energy Discipline:
It shows a systematic way of how one can create abundance of
energy within oneself by certain practices. It shows how by giving
direction to this energy, one can create possibility of
experiencing the profound.
Mental Discipline:
It is a very important process of work on consciousness. It helps
one learn how to develop the faculty of seeing, as one’s look
determines what and how he sees. The work on consciousness leads
one to different levels of understanding and this helps seeing the
profound within oneself.
Morphological Discipline:
It works with various forms - like circles, triangles etc. Work on
form is the basis of experiencing life at different levels.
Expansion and contraction offorms and one’s placement with
reference to them can bring about significant changes within us. This
constitutes the basis of experiencing the profound.
Before one chooses a discipline, each discipline and its way of working is
described in printed materials which is further elaborated by the masters to
help one choose the discipline that harmonizes with his psyche.
4. How much time it takes to complete The Discipline and what is the
requirement on day to day basis?
Initially, after one declares his intention to join the school, approximate 3-4
months are required to study the materials described in question 1. Studies are
preferably done in groups and by common agreement among the postulants.
There can be some instances of common studies done in one or two day
retreats or in fixed hour common meetings during the week. Alternatively,
there can be different groups who decide to meet and study according to their
conveniences.
At the level of study, day to day requirements are optional and depend on
interest and initiative of the postulants.
A postulant is one who offers himself as a candidate for the work on profound
because he finds it significant for his life.
When one experiences this, his attitude towards life changes as inner
revelations strike like opening windows that allow new light and fresh air.
Life looks fresh, invigorating and forceful. One looks at his own life and
creation of his future with a purpose. One gets a sensation that life does not
end with death. Relationships with one’s own self and others take a
meaningful turn. Stress patterns change to make one light footed. In effect, it
is beginning of a fresh and purposeful life.
