Currently, I am a teacher specialist who drive practices that have a positive impact on
students’ learning and staff members on my campus. As a district leader, I will like the
opportunity to enhance the success of other students, staff members, and campuses by
continuing to advocate and coach the district’s vision, curriculum, and processes.

Experience
Teacher Specialist/Administrator (3 years) Houston ISD 2015-Current
As a teacher specialist, I coach 13 teachers to increase their skills and improve their
performance so that each child would have an equal opportunity to be successful in their
classroom. I also provide consultative support for teachers who serve students with
disabilities and I perform other duties that are requested by the principal. However, my
main focus is to assist students with academic and behavioral challenges by working
closely with the special education team and intervention specialists to close academic,
social and emotional gaps.

 Act as liaison between administrators, parents and faculty/staff to facilitate


educational programming for students with disabilities.
 Monitor the implementation of services to students in RTI, 504, and SPED.
 Monitor campus case managers and conduct regularly scheduled departmental
meetings.

Special Education Chairperson (4 years) Houston ISD 2011-2015


As the Special Education Department Chairperson, I trained a team of 4 case managers who
averaged 45 students for the past 3 years. During this time, the case managers’ compliance
rate increased from 50% to 100%. The case managers have maintained 100% in
compliance for two years.

As a special education teacher, I promote the success of all students by collaborating with
parents, teachers, and specialized support instructors to determine the best learning
strategies for students.

 Support the Office of Special Education Services’ goals, objectives, operational


procedures, and act as program advocate campus.

In the last three years as the PSI teacher, I conducted reverse inclusion to increase
awareness of students with severe disabilities among the campus students. This project

provided all students with intellectual, emotional, and social growth. I also became one of
the model teachers and a mentor to other PSI teachers.

 Trained other PSI/SLL teachers during teacher pre-service.


 Implement general education and special education state assessments, State of
Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and STAAR-ALT, on campus.
 Monitor students’ progress by data collection and student portfolios based on the
priority skills identified in the student's IEP.

 Utilize differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, and equipment that
are provided to facilitate instruction to students.
