1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Project Overview

PT Pertamina Gas and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara plans to build pipeline to support PT
Pertamina Refinery Unit II Program. RU II plans to convert the fuel for its power plant from oil to
natural gas, so that the oil production from the refinery can be increased to support national
demand. In the future, this gas infrastructure will also trigger industrial growth in Dumai.

The gas pipeline length will be 67 km from Trans Gas Indonesia (TGI) at Duri to PT Pertamina
Refinery Unit II at Dumai. This project also includes the construction of Four Line Break Control
Valve stations and Gas Metering Station at Dumai.

1.2 Scope

This work includes pipeline route surveys, elevations and areas to be worked out in accordance
with boundary markers and distances determined by the survey team and approved by PT.
Pertamina Gas and PT. Perusahaan Gas Negara.

2. METHOD OF WORK

Bore Pile foundation is a type of deep foundation in the form of a tube, which serves to continue the burden of

the building structure above it from the surface of the soil to a layer of hard ground underneath. The foundation

of bore pile has the same function as foundation pile or other depth foundation. The difference between the two

is on how the execution of the installation. The service of bore pile foundation begins from making a hole in the

ground by drilling the ground first and then reinforcing the reinforcement into the hole followed by casting the

drill pile with tremi.

Figure 1. Preparation

There are various types of tools and ways to implement the making of bore pile foundation, including:

Bore Pile mini crane tool.

By using the tool / machine bore mini crane can be drilled with a diameter of 30 cm to 60 cm with a choice of

depth of 6 meters to 24 meters and even more. That is by using wash borring / wet drill. Wash borring requires

a lot of water to facilitate the implementation of bore pile work. High-rise buildings, bridges, towers and other

buildings that are build certainly require a solid foundation and sturdy.

What if the surface soil condition is not able to withstand the load of the building, the load must be continue to

the hard ground layer underneath using the foundation construction in the form of pile or bore pile. The pile

foundation is often use on large areas where the vibrations generated during the erection work do not disrupt

the surrounding environment. However, if the building is build in a location near the existing building, the

vibration generated will be an obstacle, because in the implementation very disturbing and can damage the

surrounding buildings. Under such condition, the use of bore pile foundation is the right choice of foundation.

Large projects where the means of transport support, in making bore pile is often used heavy equipment in the

form of cranes. However, for small projects especially if the means of transportation is less supportive, the use

of cranes often experience constraints because for the mobilization of funds required large enough, so the

operational costs become uneconomical.

Figure 2. Mini Pile Crane

Benefite by Using Mini Bore Pile Crane:

• Practical when mobilized

• Easy In operation.

• Does not cause vibration to the surrounding environment.

• Qualify engineering and building specifications.

This is very important, especially for the preparation of foundations in urban areas where the building is quite

tight and does not allow the execution of erection.

Engine Capability Bore Pile Mini Crane:

• Can drill from diameter 30 cm to 60 cm.

• Depth can be up to 24 meters or to a depth of hard ground in the area according to soundir data.

• Can be operate in two ways, wash borring system and dry drilling system.

The speed of implementation of the work depends on several factors as follows:

• Local soil conditions.

• Work location (existing foundation, and other former installations on old buildings, etc.)

• Smooth droping material

• Readiness of drilling waste disposal.

3. DRILLING PROCESS
1. Drilling with dry drilling system: Soil drill by using spiral drill bit. By rotating the drill bit and lifted each interval

of 0,5 meter. This is done repeatedly to the specified depth.

2. Drilling with wet drill / wash borring system: Soil drill using drill bit cross ex design according to requirement,

which have rotation speed 375 rpm, and pressure +/- 200 kg. If the soil is easily collapse, it can be given a

temporary chasing first to avoid the wall slope of the drill hole. Soil erosion is aided by water shooting

through drill hole handlebar generated from the NS-80 pump. This cause the eroded soil to become mud

and push out of the hole. After reaching the depth of the plan, drilling is stopp, while the drill bit is allowed to

rotate but the pressure load is stopped and the circulating water keeps flowing until the ground debris is

pushed out of the entire hole. During this clearance, the reinforcing steel and tremic pipe are prepared near

the borehole. Once clean enough, the drill handlebar is lift from the drill hole. With the clean foundry hole

will get the best results.

4. CLEANING BOR HOLE

The second stage is cleaning the drill hole pile of the concentrated mud. Cleaning should be done with a special

cleaning apparatus of a size corresponding to the diameter of the borehole.

5. INSTALLATION OF CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT AND TRIP PIPE

The third stage is the installation of iron concrete and tremi pipe for casting. The installed reinforced steel

framework is lifted with the help of diesel and power winch in a position perpendicular to the borehole and

carefully lowered to avoid multiple contacts with the borehole. The reinforcing steel that has been inserted in the

drill hole is retaine with a cross section of the borehole. If the need for steel reinforcement more than 12 meters

can be done by tied with a concrete wire with a length of overlap 50-60 cm or according to the construction

drawing provided.

6. PORCHING BORE PILE

The fourth stage is the work of casting bore pile into the borehole.

Figure 3. Porching Bore Pile

1. To separate the concrete from the sewage sludge at the beginning of casting, use plastic bags filled with

concrete and tied with concrete wire and then hung on the inside of the tramhole one meter down from the

tremi pipe funnel.

2. After the preparation of the casting is completed, slump concrete 18 ±2cm is accommodated in a tremi funnel

and retained by a plastic ball containing a concrete mixture after a sufficient full of plastic bag balls are

removed so that the concrete pushes the mud out of the tremi hole. Casting is done continuously to avoid

congestion on the tramway. With this trajectory system, the foundry starts from the bottom of the hole by

pushing the water / mud from the bottom out into the hole.

3. After the pipe is full and the end of the tremi pipe is embedd in concrete so that the concrete cannot flow

because there is pressure from below. To smooth the concrete in the pipe, it must be stomping on the pipe.

Tremic pipe should always be embedded in a concrete slab and the filling inside the funnel should be kept

continuously so that the funnel is not empty.

4. Tremic pipe is removed every 3 meters but the pipe end inside must be in a state embedded in the concrete.

Stop casting after the concrete slab that had risen to the surface had been cleared of mud.

5. After the casting work is finished, all casting equipment is cleaned of concrete and mud residue and re-

prepared for use at the next drill point.

Note: concrete slump for bored pile casting is 18 ±2cm so that the concrete can fill the hole maximally and to simplify

the process of bored pile or so the concrete is not stoped in the tremi pipe.
