Flash Code 82 is used to identify oil level or exhaust temperature voltage low. EGR codes include
EGR Delta-Pressure circuit low and EGR temperature circuit low.
The SAE J1587 equivalent code for Flash Code 82 is p 98/4, oil level sensor input voltage low.
Equivalent codes are also s 155 or 411/4, EGR Delta-Pressure failed low and s 154 or 412/4, EGR
temperature failed low. Also code p 173/4, exhaust gas temperature circuit failed low.
For all EGR related codes, always perform the basic checks in EGR-1. Refer to section 10.16 for
Series 50 engines. For Series 60 engines, refer to section 10.18.
The following procedure will troubleshoot Flash Code 82. For code s 155 or 411,
refer to section 82.3.1; for code s 154 or 411, refer to section 82.3.3. Refer to section 82.4.1 for
troubleshooting code p 98/4. Refer to section 82.5.1 for troubleshooting code 173/4.
[a] If the resistance measurement is less than or equal to 5 , circuit #907 has shorted to
circuit #452. Repair the short. Verify. Refer to section 82.3.4.
[b] If the resistance measurement is greater than 5 , replace the EGR temperature
sensor and verify the repair. Refer to section 82.3.4.
Perform the following steps to verify repairs for the EGR temperature or pressure sensor:
1. Connect all connectors.
2. Start and run the engine.
3. Road test the engine.
[a] If code 82 was not logged, no further troubleshooting is required.
[b] If code 82 was logged, please review this section from the first step to find the error.
Refer to section 82.3.1. If this is the second time through the procedure, call Detroit
Diesel Technical Service, or try a test ECM.
The following procedure will troubleshoot the Maintenance Alert System (MAS):
Typically, the exhaust gas temperature circuit failed high is caused by an open signal or short to
battery+. Perform the following steps to troubleshoot code p 173/3:
2. Install a jumper wire between the two pins at the ETS.See Figure 82-5.
