EGR Delta-Pressure circuit low and EGR temperature circuit low.

82.2 SAE J1587 EQUIVALENT CODE FOR FLASH CODE 82

The SAE J1587 equivalent code for Flash Code 82 is p 98/4, oil level sensor input voltage low.
Equivalent codes are also s 155 or 411/4, EGR Delta-Pressure failed low and s 154 or 412/4, EGR
temperature failed low. Also code p 173/4, exhaust gas temperature circuit failed low.
For all EGR related codes, always perform the basic checks in EGR-1. Refer to section 10.16 for

Perform the following steps to read codes:

1. Turn ignition ON.
2. Plug in the DT.
3. Read active codes.
4. Record or print codes and turn the ignition OFF.

[b] If code 98/4 displays, refer to section 82.4.2.

82.4.2 Check for Open

Perform the following steps to check for open:

1. Unplug the sensor.
2. Insert the jumper wire between cavities B and C.
3. Turn ignition ON.
4. Read codes.
[a] If code 98/3 displays, check the connectors for damaged, open or broken pins. If
everything checks out, refer to section 82.4.3. If damage is noted, repair and verify
the repairs. See Figure 82-3. Refer to section 82.4.5.

82.4.3 Check for Short

Perform the following steps to check for a short:

1. Measure resistance between cavity A #452 and C #416, and again between cavity A #452
and B #906 of the sensor connector. See Figure 82-3.
[a] If either reading is less than 10 , that wire is shorted to the sensor return #452.
Repair the short or replace the harness. Verify the repair. Refer to section 82.4.5.
[b] If both readings are greater than 10 , replace the sensor. Verify the repair.
Refer to section 82.4.5.

82.4.4 Check for Open

Perform the following steps to check for open:

1. Unplug the 30–pin engine sensor connector at the ECM.
2. Measure resistance with the jumper still plugged in, between cavity L2, #906 and W1,
#416. See Figure 82-4.
[a] If the reading is greater than 10 , either the #416 or #9706 wire is open. Repair the
open or replace the harness. Verify the repair. Refer to section 82.4.5.
[b] If the reading is greater than 10 , replace the sensor. Verify the repair.
Refer to section 82.4.5.

[a] If the reading is > 400 , the resistor between circuit #416 and #749 has failed.
Replace the resistor or replace the harness.
[b] If the reading is < 400 , replace the ETS, and refer to section 82.5.3.

82.5.3 Check for Short to Ground

Perform the following steps to check for short to ground:

1. Measure the resistance between cavity #D3 and ground (battery and block).
2. Measure the resistance between cavity #W1 and ground (battery and block).
See Figure 82-5.
[a] If any readings are less than 5 , that wire is shorted to ground. Repair or replace the
wire and test. Refer to section 82.5.4.
[b] If both readings are greater than 5 , replace ETS and test. Refer to section 82.5.4.
