8. METHODOLOGY FOR VERTICAL PILE LOAD TEST

Diameter of Pile : 1200 mm

Design load of the Test Pile : 1300 MT

(Motera, Sabarmati, Aec, Sabarmati Railway Station And Ranip) For Pkg – 4B
(Package-4b) Of North-South Corridor For Ahemadabad Metro Rail Project Phase-I

Test Load : 2.5 x 520 = 1300 MT

Length of Pile : 27 meter
Grade of Concrete : M 35
Date of Testing : After 28 days of casting or achieving
100% characteristic Compressive strength

Step 1
Installation of Test Pile: As per approved Bored Cast in Situ Pile Methodology.

Step 2
Installation of bored cast in situ reaction pile as test, it consists following:
1. Boring of 1200 mm dia. reaction pile having depth as per approved design drawing depth.
2. Lowering of reinforcement cage with the help of piling Rig/crane.
3. Thereafter, the tremmie pipes are lowered in position for concreting. Concreting of pile is
done by 200 mm dia. Tremie Pipes. The concrete shall either be pumped or poured in to the
hopper. The top of concrete in a pile shall be brought above the cut off level to permit removal
of all laitance and weak concrete to ensure good concrete at cut off level.
4. Load test shall be carried out after on achieving 100% strength in test pile/anchor pile.

Step3

Pile head shall be prepared after chipped off of top concrete head and top is prepared
smooth & horizontal. A plate of 32 mm thick shall be placed over the pile head.

Step 4

Hydraulic Jacks, Distance Pieces, Datum Bar and test assembly will then be erected as shown
in drawing.

Step 5

Bearing plates shall be fixed bellow the girder assembly.

a) Load Application: The test shall be carried out by applying series of vertical downward
loading & Unloading by means of Hydraulic jacks. Each increment being of about 20 % of
design Lateral load on pile.
b) Settlement: Settlement will be recorded with 4 dial gauges held by datum bars. Datum bars
resting on immovable support at distant 3d from pile centre.
c) Load increment criteria:
Settlement readings are noted on each dial gauge immediately after loading and after every 15
minutes for each stage. Next loading increment shall be apply after satisfying following
criteria.
a) 0.1 mm or less in first 30 Mins.
b) 0.2 mm or less in first hour or 2 hour whichever occurs first.
After completion of final loading load shall be maintained for 24 hrs & the reading shall be
taken for every hour.
d) Unloading criteria:

Alternate loading & unloading shall be carried out at each stage. Load shall be increased, each
increment being about 20 % of design load on pile after 15 mins. of unloading. Reading shall
be taken immediately after unloading 15 mins. Later for each stage.
