MARITIME COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM FOR

VESSEL TRAFFIC SURVEILLANCE (IHM-VTS)

Improve operation of your VTS radio communication system by

installing an IHM-VTS solution that combines all operational
communication into a single operator terminal.
IHM offers top-of-the-line radio communication systems for quality-conscious organisations and companies. IHM-VTS
is a system designed to provide communication between a Maritime Communication Centre and vessels sailing within
the geographical area covered by the centre.

The IHM-VTS application software has been designed to make it possible to customize the entire solution to match
the control centre’s operational requirements.

The application consists of a number of software packages in which the following communication facilities can be
implemented:

• Voice communication through one or more radio base stations (part of the basic package)

• DSC sell-calls can be received and transmitted

• NAVTEX messages can be generated/transmitted and received. Received messages can be distributed internally
between the operators within the control centre

• MSI – Maritime Safety Information messages/playlists for transmission of MSI information can be generated
and scheduled for transmission by one or more operators within the organisation.

The communications switch hardware is based on the COM4500MCS

Maritime Communications Switch – a modular-designed switch providing
the gateway interconnect functionality to

• operator terminals (local as well as remote),

• radio base stations (local as well as remote) and
• telephone lines (PABX/PSTN) within the system.

The communications switch is controlled by the

IHM-VTS application software.

The software application platform that provides access to all vessel
traffic communication tasks
The IHM-VTS communication software application is an application that can be tailored
to meet the communication control wishes specifically required for communication
within vessel traffic surveillance systems.

All added applications such as voice communication, DSC calling, NAVTEX message
handling and MSI transmission are tailored to meet the individual operator’s preferred
demands with respect to the system.

Furthermore, the system can be equipped with call-taking / call-dispatch telephone

Typical user interface
facilities to and from the PABX/PSTN telephone network. This facility can be controlled
by either all or a limited number of call centre operators.

Telephone calls, incoming as well as outgoing, can be transferred from one operator to
other operators (transfer facility) or patched through a radio connection to the vessel
for which the incoming call is intended (telephone patch facility).

Set-up of the operator’s tasks (control of radio and/or telephone lines) can either be
performed locally on the operator’s terminal by authorized personnel, or remotely by a IHM TE10-40 Audio box

The COM4500MCS Voice Communications Switch controlled by the IHM-VTS
application software is modular - it can grow with your requirements, from a small,
single site system to a nationwide network including a large number of radio base
stations, telephone lines or operator consoles.

The COM4500MCS provides interconnection possibilities for:

• Locally or remotely installed operator terminals interconnected to the switch

through VoIP circuits established through a LAN/WAN or an Internet connection.

• Connection to a variety of types (VHF/MF/HF) and brands of radio base stations

which can be installed locally or remotely controlled through VoIP connections
(established through a LAN/WAN or Internet connection), a 4-wire telephone
line, a digital radio link/an optical fibre system or a V-SAT connection.
COM4500MSC, with up to
• Telephone gateway facilities making it possible for operators to receive incoming 64 interface connections
or initiate outgoing telephone calls.

The telephone gateway solution provides possibilities for handling calls to the
following types of telephone circuits:

o Telephone lines PABX or PSTN

o Analogue

o ISDN2

o ISDN30

o and more

- all in one mixture
