Please accept this note as a request to petition your help with the upcoming Michigan Student Test of
Educational Progress (M-Step). The M-Step will measure what your child has learned during the year in relation
to Michigan’s career and college ready learning standards. Testing for your child will began April 30 – May 25,
2018.

In my efforts, to be proactive and help prepare your child we will start whole group practice this week. In my
plans, I have included opportunities for your child to become familiar with some of the fourth grade M-Step
vocabulary words and engage in both the online English Language arts (ELA) and Mathematics practice tests.
Both the ELA and Mathematics assessments are computer adaptive (CAT). Computer adaptive assessments are
completed online and generally are step up to adapt to the examinee's ability level. In addition, in the upcoming
weeks my students will also receive M-Step ELA and Mathematics homework packets. Please make sure he or
she does not take the homework lightly or frivolously and is completing the work to the best of their ability.

You can aid me with this M-Step preparation by helping me expose your child to the vocabulary, the text
dependent analysis (essay) where your child will be required to write an essay, and allowing your child to engage
in the online practice at home; or taking them to a neighborhood public library for the online practice. The
resources to help provide the support your child will need are listed below. If you have any questions, please

Master the M-Step!
