DCPPO-2 Clients Undergo “Galing Mason” Training

By SPPO Lloyd D. Barrion

In order to address the apparent lack of

employable skills of selected clients especially in
the field of masonry, the Davao City Parole and
Probation Office No. 2 (DCPPO-2) established
partnership with Holcim (Philippines)
Incorporated, Association of Contractual and
Informal Workers (ACIW), and Davao City Anti-
Drug Abuse Council (CADAC). On February 29,
2015, an exceptional prospect arose for the
Office to embark on the “Galing Mason”
Training, which is a flagship program of Holcim
(Philippines) Incorporated, providing basic and
advanced masonry skills training with
certification program for potential and
uncertified masons. Nine (9) clients from the
Office took part in the month-long activity that
began on March 2, 2016. Holcim sponsored the

Community Work Service Through “Brigada Eskwela”

By SrPPO Miriam Ruth A. Maranga

The “Brigada Eskwela” (or “Bayanihan Para

Sa Paaralan” or “Oplan Balik Eskwela Program”) of
the Department of Education (DepEd) began in
2003. It is a nationwide voluntary effort of
teachers, parents, students, community members
and other organizations to do minor repairs and
clean-up of the schools in preparation for the
opening of the school year.

The Parole and Probation Administration in

its commitment as community-based rehabilitation
agency, allied with the schools bringing the Davao City Parole and Probation Office No. 1
Community Work Service Program. Thus, together
the two agencies attained the maximum benefit of
the bayanihan endeavor that is, encouraging the
spirit of volunteerism and incurring government’s
savings. From the Parole and Probation
Administration, Region XI central field offices of
Davao City up to North and South field offices, on
different dates since last week of May to the second
week of June the “Brigada Eskwela” took action—
cleaning rooms, collecting garbage, weeding
playgrounds, painting walls, dusting and fixing
chairs and tables, clearing and digging canals, and

trimming trees and flowers. Joining with the

probationers and parolees were the Family
Support Group (FSG) and the Volunteer
Probation Assistants (VPAs). Happy hearts and

Restorative Justice Works!

By SPPO Joyce A. Rendon

It has been a while that PPA Agency

has adopted Restorative Justice as one of
our flagship programs. Statistically, almost
all if not one hundred percent of total
clients undergone Restorative Justice (RJ)
as a paradigm in the correction of our
clients. Restorative Justice is defined as a
process through which remorseful
offenders accept responsibility for their
misconduct to those injured and to the
community that in response allows the
reintegration of the offender into the said
community. As compared to Retributive

To make RJ work, our agency is

guided by its manual in implementing the
program. The actual meeting of the
stakeholders is called an RJ process that
comes into the form of Mediation,
Conferencing, Circle of Support and
Indigenous Practices. And guided by the
principle of healing the broken relationship
between our clients and their complainant
thru RJ, the Davao City Parole and
Probation Office No. 3 once again proved
that RJ works. Just recently a probationer

Prosecution Office, allegedly because of his
