First of all, let us praise Allah SWT, our God for His blessing that we could meet
today and I would like to welcome Mr. ............. from Ministry of Commerce of
Thailand and All Delegations to Indonesia. Welcome, and Selamat Datang to
Jakarta.
I am happy today that officials from Ministry of Commerce of Thailand and some of
Thailand Private Sectors from Thai Fresh Fruits Traders and Exporters Association
deign to come to Indonesia to seek possibility of establishment a mutual partnership
in trade of Indonesian premium fruits such as mangoes, magoesteen and salak that
could enter Thailand Market. Therefore, we would like to appreciate and thank you
for your cooperation.
As we know that Indonesia is one of the largest tropical fruits producing country in
the world. In 2013, tropical fruits production in Indonesia reached 17,5 million tonne
and they are produced from 34 Provinces from Aceh Province untill Papua Province.
However, in the last 5 years (2009 – 2013), Indonesia always had a deficit in the
trade balance against Thailand of agricultural products especially for horticultural
products which reached 87,2 million US$. We realize that the our export
performance of horticulture products especially tropical fruits to the world is still low
but we always optimistic due to Indonesia have a huge potential to be one of the
largest fruit exporters to the world. In 2013, Indonesia has exported 37,2 thousand
tonne of fruits and only 283,5 tonne were exported to Thailand. Whereas in 2013
Indonesia imported as much as 61,8 thousand tonnes of fruits from Thailand such
as longan, durian, mango, Mandarin oranges, bananas, guava, grapes etc.
We realize that the cultivation technology of fruits in Thailand are very advanced,
therefore, both countries need to establish technical cooperation in some of fruit
cultivation technology. Indonesia and Thailand currently has the Joint Agricultural
Working Group (JAWG) which has been conducted 6 times. We also expected to be
able to export some fruit to Thailand. In order to comply export standard, several
improvement have been made. We develop farm registration based on GAP (we
have IndoGAP and ASEAN GAP), we also improve quality, GHP and packinghouse
registration and sertification. Right now we are in progress.
Now I would like to invite you to present or share the information regarding our
possibility of establishment a mutual partnership in trade.
