Case study: Wong Manufacturing Company (WMC) ©

Introduction

Organizations globally are currently faced by many challenges such as government policies,

corruption, and lack of enough funds, poor leaderships, competitions and slow growth rates.

WMC like any other firm or organization also face these challenges in their real life (Burnes,

2004). Succeeding in search problems and the changing environment demands that the

managerial department should reshape the company to overcome them. Responding to this

challenges remains the hardest task because of the natural resistance that exists.

However, to deal with some of these challenges, the WMC should make sure they have good

leaders to drive the company into success and become the leading profitable organization in the

world. Good leadership in the firm will lead to good management because of the concerned

within the value of the system. The WMC also should invest in new technology to help the

company in advertising and reaching more customers through the new methods of technology.

The organization should make sure they provide education to it workers and the stakeholders on

management and leadership skills. This will provide and healthy working environment. The

management should also include all the employees in all the changes and improvements

undertaken by the top ownership of the WMC, this will make the employees to have a sense of

ownership of the organization.

Organizational Change 3

Organizational change

Organizational change is an irreversible decision and adoption of every feature of its

personnel, structure and processes. The current business environment in WMC is forcing almost

every entity to change. However, thinking in the corporate point of view, WMC success should

be in accordance with adopting the new market demands. The competition from the globe that

rocked WMC suggested that they need to adopt different typological changes in order to

overcome them.

WMC should first adopt the process of transition because it is one of the big change led

by economic reforms including changing of the management. One of the aspects driving the

economic factors is today’s globalization. The main change that is common in all other

businesses apart from WMC is the result of profit maximization and the headcount which is the

fruits of the strategies put in place. Moreover, thinking of mergers and acquisitions in WMC,

changes become more usual due to the likeliness of occurrence that might occur between the two

(Hayes (2014).

Economics in today’s world is the most sophisticated in the companies and organization

such as WMC. They deal with the challenges which represents he sophisticated experts that deal

with the challenges face by the management itself. Changes however in the real life are

inevitable. The rule can be adopted by WMC and other organizations to enable them overcome

the challenges they are facing.

According to the topological changes we can describe various models and types of

topology that should be adopted by WMC. The leadership model is the main mode where the

managers or the owners of the firm are responsible for delivering and looking for new strategies
Organizational Change 4

to make and effect changes in the organization. This topology is mostly employed when the

management in place has failed to implement what is good for the company or have shown signs

of failing. WMC however needs to carry out audit of itself and identify the hardworking

employees and the stakeholders. The human resource should however recruit qualified and

highly trained individuals who can deliver to the company. The underperforming and corrupt

officials should be sacked and new persons who can deliver their services to the firm to be

brought in.

The model of management should also be critically considered by the stakeholders of the

WMC since it is another main arm of the company. Failure by the management to carry out its

duties effectively will automatically have a negative impact to the firm. Management is a key

driver in every organization since it is the department that foresee the implementation of the

policies and changes.

Another change that WMC should adopt is the team work spirit. In today’s business

environment, team work is the best tool in driving a company or an institution and I personally

recommend this to WMC. Team work allows sharing of ideas and knowledge among the

employees and the shareholders in the organization. Working as a team an organization make it

easier to spot errors and correct them before they bring messes in the organization. WMC should

adopt these strategy where employees in different departments or fields work together to achieve

the common goal of profitability.

Integrity and respect in business atmosphere is vital as it involves respecting each and

very persons opinion. This also shows that every ones opinion counts and this is more important

to the organization. WMC should try and implement this by providing a working environment
Organizational Change 5

that is conducive to all its employees and stakeholders. Additionally, the WMC management

should be having sessions at agreed intervals that involves all the workers and the owners to

enable them raise their issues concerning the organization. This will make the management to

understand more where it need to be rectified and those areas that have no problem and by doing

so the company will succeed and beat its competitors (Stoughton & Ludema,2012).

Indicators of effectiveness

Organizational effectiveness can be stated as the efficiency where an organization or firm

can meet its objectives and goals. It can also be defines as the degree to the set goals are

achieved. WMC for instance has achieved some of its goals and have failed in some areas too.

The management of the organization should set goals and objectives and work towards them.

Different organizations have different indicators of effectiveness. WMC for instance can

measure its degree of effectiveness by considering on their profits. Some of indicators of the

effectiveness include workers commitment, good leadership, employ commitment and the

customer’s satisfaction among others (Paramenter, 2014).

The effectiveness of an organization means that it’s about running and managing the

system without a waste. It is also about individuals working and doing almost everything they

know and how to do it. However, efficiency is the capacity of a company or firm to produce the

results required with a minimum use of the funds and resources. The desired effects here depends

on goals and objectives of the company and they include making profits and minimizing loses.

The main indicator of effectiveness of an organization is the operation of a business without

making a waste or loses regularly.

Organizational Change 6

For an organization such as the WMC to work effectively they should have good HRM

that have passion for their work. HRM is responsible in the management of the company and the

leadership. The leadership in any organization is the determinant of the future of the

organization. In an organization that has realized both effectiveness and efficiency, it will easily

achieve its goals by selling their products without a waste of resources. This can be summarized

as maximizing profits. Most organizations measure their effectiveness by expressing it on how

they are making profits and meeting their daily targets. Other measure might include the growth

data and the results from surveys conducted by the team to have customer’s feedbacks

(Matthews, 2015).

WMC as a high effective organization should exhibit the strength across the following

main areas; leadership, structure of the company, process of decision making, customers, job

processes and the culture. Technology should also be factored in as the other indicator of

effectiveness. WMC should adapt its dynamic environment to achieve and maintain their

success. They should also evaluate and improve the efficiency since its part of the strategies used

to grow and develop the organization. WMC should allow audit of its departmental sectors to

enable them curb corruption in the company.

WMC should not only measure their success by considering the financial performances

but should deal with all the sectors and departments in the organization. However, not all firms

making profits are effective, this is because some might not be following their mission

statements and core values. The effectiveness of an organization measures a big picture of the

company across a broad range of criteria. Internal and external structures , planning, adhering to
Organizational Change 7

mission statement and the core values, and good financial performances are all the critical

components in understanding the effectiveness of an organization such as the WMC.

For WMC to have a clear idea of its effectiveness they should create a list of criteria for

assessment. Organization cannot have the same list of criteria making it the preferred method of

measuring effectiveness by the profit and non-profit groups by making their internal

assessments. The self-assessment will help them reconnect with the mission of their organization

(Hayes, 2014)

Importance of enlisting support from key stakeholders.

Stakeholder theory indicates that each company has internal stakeholders who are individuals or

groups openly and financially convoluted in the operational process and external stakeholders

who are indirectly influenced by the organization's operations. The companies that last long are

the ones that always find creative ways to meet stakeholders short and long term needs. Wong

Manufacturing Company (WMC) © Internal Stakeholders Include owners, managers and

employees (Hayes, 2014).

Owners

Owners are individuals who own significant shares in a Company. Owners are liable for a

company’s strategic and organizational impacts. They have a significant role in formulating

strategies and making significant resolutions on both external and internal stakeholders.

Managers
Organizational Change 8

Managers play important roles in determining Amazons strategy and a significant voice impact

on its operations. Managers act as a point of contact between the shareholders, organization, and

board of directors. Managers are also accountable for company decisions.

Employees

Employees are prime internal structures, they a significant financial role in Amazon and play a

role in the tactics, strategy, and operations carried out. WMC should take into account employee

concerns, opinions, and values in planning the strategy, mission and vision of the firm.

Stakeholders in any organization need to be involved in all the decision making of the company.

WMC however as any other organization should adopt the culture of involving all the

stakeholders and asking support from them too. This will enable the WMC to achieve its growth

and profitability goals. Stakeholders and owners of the organization are the key components of

an organization. The stakeholders are the first persons to be affected by any impact in the firm.

The stake holders can as well have either positive or negative effect and are the most important

to the organization since they are the ones who are in possession of the documents describing

WMC as an organization or company.

The need for engaging stakeholder in the decision making is because they have the information

needed about the company and have the most important information of solving problems arising

in the organization. The problems such high level of corruption in the management should be

intervened by the stakeholders of the company. Stakeholders’ involment will help in creating

infrastructures that support the planning and management processes hence will foster the long-

term commitment and the institutionalization collaboration. Engagement of stakeholders in

decision making is important to the organization since it allows a wide or more ideas to be tabled
Organizational Change 9

concerning the decision. The engagement also helps in strengthening ones position if there is an

opposing side. There is increase in credibility and fewer errors are expected if the stakeholders of

the firm are engaged (Malhortra & Hinings, 2015).

Effective stakeholder engagement depends on the commitment to communicate after engaging

them openly and honestly. The result of the stakeholder engagement is smooth cooperation in the

organization and uniformity in developing the policies. WMC should choose to adapt the method

of enlisting its stakeholders to help them realize and enjoy their success.
