Museum Exhibit Design Project
The Connecticut Science Center is interested in creating a new exhibit that teaches people of all ages
about how we come to understand our worlds through our brain and our senses. Your class has been
identified as a potential group to design, create, and curate the exhibit. Before holding a test run of the
exhibit at Taft, you have been asked to craft a proposal detailing the design of your exhibit.
REFLECT
1. Describe a museum or exhibit you have been to that you did not consider to be very effective. What
do you think made it ineffective?
2. Describe a museum or exhibit you have been to that you consider to be “successful.” What do you
think made it successful?
DESIGN
3. Who will your audience be? What background are they likely to have?

4. What information or demos did you find most interesting or surprising in this unit? What did you want
to learn more about?
5. As a class, we decided that the big theme/message we want people to take away from our exhibit is:

THE PROPOSAL
● A sketch of what the exhibit would look like. Imagine that all the the necessary materials will be
funded; let your imagination run wild! The sketch should be labeled if anything is unclear.
● Any text that would be a part of your display/exhibit. This would include any instructions for
visitors, any accompanying explanatory text, etc. Make sure the level of your writing is
appropriate for your audience (i.e. museum visitors)!
○ An explanation of how your exhibit helps communicate the theme the class decided
upon
○ *This part should be written as if you are speaking to an expert in the field, not a visitor
to the museum.
● A catchy title for your exhibit. This can be part of the sketch and/or the designer’s note.
