LESSON PLAN by Yvonne Gallardo

I. Describe the Class

This is a college multiculturalism course which is composed of English and


English as a second language students. All the students in this course are
preparing to be early, primary, and secondary educators.

II. Subject/Skill:

Gender Equality in our classrooms.

III. Objective(s)

To inform future educators about gender equality in our classroom for both
genders. Also, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered population in our
schools.

IV. Procedures:

1. Before I begin my presentation, I will leave a box of pink and blue pencils
so that each student can get one and ask what color each student got and
why. I will read the definitions out for gender, gender bias, sex role
stereotyping, sex role socialization, and having a gender-fair classroom.
In addition, I will mention the discrimination that some students
experience because of their sexual orientation.
2. I will give some dates and talk about some of the history of our school
system in the United States when it came to the education of boys and
girls. My other slide will be about gender differences, and some
similarities in the classroom. I will also, show a video from France in
which the question about boys being left behind will arise. I will ask the
students how they feel about boys being left behind and allow them to
discuss among each other.
3. Students will be shown a slide about the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and the
transgendered community and a couple of historical events will be touched
upon, such as the struggles of this community specially at a young age. I
will be giving educators some tips on how to protect the civil rights of a
students in their classrooms. here will be a final remark about how
educators can have a positive, or negative impact in a student’s life.
4. I will ask the students what they think of the presentation and if there are
any objections to the material presented. My main goal is to have an open
discussion among the students.
V. Materials
 The three textbooks from which I obtained the information given in the
presentation.
 A power point presentation
 Kahoot an online educational game that will have eight questions from the
presentation and students will compete to see who gets the most answers
right.
 Pink and blue pencils

VI. Grouping Structures

There will be no assigned groups. Everyone will work as a team and engage
in open discussions.

VII. Modifications

There will be no modifications since all students are fluent in English and
Spanish and there are no known disabilities in the classroom.

VIII. Assessment

5. The whole class will play Kahoot and the following questions will be
asked: what is sex role stereotyping? What is a gender fair classroom? The
Dame schools gave instruction to who? The Boston Latin school’s main
purpose was? Which gender tends to bully? Harvey Milk School in New
York city is the nation’s first? The Los Angeles school system
implemented the nation’s first? Educators should _______ in their
classroom.
6. A copy of my power point will be given to each student.
