1. General
This standard describes the mechanical-physical properties of various antifricor®
coating systems based on organic reduced-friction paints, primarily for use on metal
surfaces.

antifricor® is a proprietary brand name of Te Strake Surface Technology.

2. Definition
Reduced-friction paints are dispersed solid lubricants, such as molybdenum
disulphide (MoS2), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), or combinations of both in inorganic
or organic binders, which are not applied by electrolytic means.

They reduce friction and associated wear and, used in conjunction with specific pre-
treatment systems, also protect against corrosion.

Both the reduced-friction and corrosion-proofing properties are determined by:

ƒ Pre-treatment
ƒ Coating type
ƒ Application parameters
ƒ Material
ƒ Surface quality

3. Base Material
The parts to be coated must not have any surface defects or residues from preceding
manufacturing or processing stages, which would impair the coating quality or the
assured properties.

4. Process Description
Our branded product for ultra-functional surfaces

antifricor® is the multifunctional dry lubrication system for tribological solutions.

antifricor® can be individually matched to the required application (modular

principle).

antifricor® is the combination of pre-treatment systems and reduced-friction paints.

antifricor® combines

ƒ reduced wear,
ƒ dry lubrication and
ƒ corrosion proofing
in a single system.

4
4.1 Pre-treatment

Prior to coating, the surface is pre-treated, e.g. by blasting, Endurion hardening (=

special thick-coat phosphating), or by suitable combinations of different processes.

This produces a perfect primed surface for the coating to adhere to. In conjunction
with the follow-on reduced-friction paint coats, tribological, corrosion-proofing
properties are guaranteed.

Factors to be taken into account are...

In the case of hardened and tempered parts

and also case-hardened or cold-formed material with localised structural strength

> 1000 N/mm2, attention is focused on resistance against delayed brittle fracture
(hydrogen embrittlement)

Mechanical: Blasting

Chemical: Endurion thick-coat phosphating

Due to the problem of hydrogen

embrittlement, electroplating pre-treatment
processes cannot be
used for strength classes > 1000 N/mm2

In the case of non-hardened and tempered parts

Chemical: Endurion thick-coat phosphating

or

Special electroplating processes.

5. Application
On bulk small parts, reduced-friction paints are generally applied using the immersion-
tumbler method. Larger, non-bulk products, or parts to be only partially coated, are
sprayed using a suitable process.

5.1 Stoving the reduced-friction paint

The stoving time and temperature are geared to the relevant reduced-friction paint
types. The material properties of the parts to be coated must not be modified by the
stoving process. This requirement particularly applies to temperature-sensitive
materials, including zinc and aluminium alloys

7. Specific Comments
7.1 Total coating thickness

The coating thickness is dependent of various factors, including:

ƒ Material from which the part to be coated is made

ƒ Heat treatment
ƒ Geometry and weight
ƒ Reduced-friction paint type
ƒ Process-specific parameters

Pre-treatment + reduced-friction paint = normal range: 10–20 µm

7.2 Coating thickness measurement

The coating thickness is measured using a magnetic-inductive or a specific

measurement method.

7.3 Corrosion proofing

The requirements are customer-specific and are orientated to the currently applicable
specifications of the automotive industry. Details on request.

7.4 Tribological properties

antifricor® systems are ideal for reducing friction and wear. These properties are
determined by various factors, including:

ƒ Reduced-friction paint type

ƒ Application
ƒ Base material
ƒ Stress profile

8
8. Resistance of the Cured Coating to Various Media
Cured reduced-friction paints have excellent resistance to:

ƒ Petrol
ƒ Brake fluid
ƒ Alkalines
ƒ Aromatics
ƒ Alcohols
ƒ Cutting fluids
ƒ Mineral oils
ƒ Synthetic oils
ƒ Detergents and cleaning agents

and many other substances. Details on request.
