1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1.1 FXO (Foreign Exchange Office)
The Analog Trunk FXO is an interface that connects to a trunk line, like the one from your service provider.
It receives ringing voltage and battery from FXS devices. FXO interfaces are used to connect your PBX to
the PSTN. One FXO channel is required for each line you receive from your telco. The Analog Trunk FXO
provides connectivity to analog central office loop start trunk line analog interfaces. And it can be combined
with BRI, PRI and GSM module. Typically, a phone is connected to a loop start line from the Telco and is,
by default, in an on-hook state. When the phone goes off-hook, the phone completes the line circuit and
current flows through the line. The Telco provides an audible dial tone to the phone and accepts dual-tone
multi-frequency (DTMF) digits from the caller. The Central Office Interface Circuit (COIC) is the heart of the
loop start Analog interface, and takes the place of a telephone when connecting to the Telco. The loop
start Analog Interface provides the following features:
y Detects ringing when on-hook
y Detects loop current when off-hook
y Detects tip/ring voltage crossing a set voltage when on-hook or off-hook (called DC triggering)
y Can accommodate private branch exchange (PBX) with -48V battery voltage
y Loop current range: 13~110mA
y Voltage detection threshold is software-selectable
All four ports on PLANET IPX-21FO module bracket are 6P4C RJ11 ports. The pin assignments are
indentified in Table 1.

1.2 2FXO + 2FXS (Foreign Exchange Office & Foreign Exchange Station)
2FXO + 2FXS is mixed interface of foreign exchange office and foreign exchange station that connect to
office and station. It includes 2 FXO ports and 2 FXS ports, and can be combined with BRI, PRI and GSM
module. FXO interfaces are used to connect your PBX to the PSTN. One FXO channel is required for each
line you receive from your telco. FXS interfaces are used on the inside of your PBX; they do not connect
directly to the PSTN. One FXS channel is required for each telephone that you wish to connect to your
Asterisk system.
The loop start Analog Interface (FXS) provides the following features:
y Detects ringing when on-hook
y Detects loop current when off-hook
y Detects tip/ring voltage crossing a set voltage when on-hook or off-hook (called DC triggering)
y Can accommodate private branch exchange (PBX) with -48V battery voltage
y Loop current range: 13~110mA
y Voltage detection threshold is software-selectable

Note:
■ Old IPX-21BR module CANNOT be inserted to IPX-2200 and IPX-2500v2.
■ New IPX-21BR module CAN be inserted ONLY to SLOT 2 of IPX-2200, IPX2500v2 and
IPX-2100v1; CAN be inserted ONLY to SLOT 1 of IPX-2100v1.
■ If you need to use the new IPX-21BR module on IPX-2100v1/IPX2500v1, please adjust the jumper
to v1.
On PLANET IPX-21BR module, the jumper is on different position for 1/2 port and 3/4 port. The user
should do the following to detect which position is applicable for local standard.
(1) Connect the BRI module correctly and boot up the device
(2) In GUI, set mode for the channels you need to work (Don’t check EC when there’s no EC).
(3) Connect the line to 1/2 and check if it’s working properly or not
(4) When it’s working, then change jumper on 3/4 to 1/2 position
(5) When it’s not working, change jumper on 1/2 to 3/4 position

The Primary Rate Interface (PRI) is a standardized telecommunications service level within the Integrated
Services Digital Network (ISDN) specification for carrying multiple DS0 voice and data transmissions
between a network and a user. PRI is the standard for providing telecommunication services to offices. It is
based on the T-carrier (T1) line in the US and Canada, and the E-carrier (E1) line in Europe. The T1 line
consists of 24 channels, while an E1 has 32.
PRI provides a varying number of channels depending on the standards in the country of implementation.
In North America and Japan, it consists of 23xB (B channels (be/s). In Europe and Australia, it is 30xB +
1xD on an E1 2.048 Mbit/s. One timeslot on the E1 is used for synchronization purposes and is not
considered to be a B or D channel.
Primary Rate Interface is for large organizations with 30 bearer channels and 2xD (D channel [delta
channel] [23 64-kbit/s digital channels + 1 64-kbit/s signaling/control channel) on a T1 [1.544 Mbit (PRI]),
for larger applications. Both rates include a number of B-channels and a D-channel. Each B-channel
carries data, voice, and other services. The D-channel carries control and signaling information.
Confidential
The Primary Rate Interface (PRI) consists of 23 64-kbit/s B-channels and one 64-kbit/s D-channel using a
T1 line, often referred to as "23B + D", (North American and Japanese standard) or 30 B-channels and two
D-channels using an E1 line (Europe/rest of world), often referred to as "30B + 2D". A T1 Primary Rate
Interface user would have access to a 1.472-Mbit/s data service. An E1 Primary Rate Interface user would
have access to a 1.920 Mbit/s data service. Larger connections are possible using PRI pairing.
1PRI module applies to PLANET IPX-2200, IPX-2500v2, IPX-2500v1 and IPX-2100v1 IP PBX system with
one port. This port has four LEDs (light-emitting diodes), which is assembled on the mainboard.
Note:
The jumper on the PLANET IPX-2200, IPX-2100v1 and IPX-2500v2 is in the “Slave” mode; the jumper on
the PLANET IPX-2100v1 is in the “Master” mode. IPX-21PR Module CANNOT be inserted to SLOT 2 of
IPX-2100v1.
LED 1 indicates port status LED 2 and LED 3 indicate port status
Solid Red = Module loading succeeded L2 Solid Red/L3 Off = CPE signaling
Off = Module loading failed L2 Solid Green/L3 off = NET signaling
The LED 4 indicates port status L3 Solid Red/L2 Off = Mfcr2 signal
L3 Solid Green/L2 Off = SS7 signaling
Red = Disconnected (Alarm)
Off = No signal
Green = Connected (No alarm)
