METHODOLOGY

We all knew that the earthquake on May 12, 2015 of magnitude 7.3 with epicentre on the border of
Dolakha and Sindupalchowk districts followed by number of aftershocks caused devastating loss of
lives and properties. Mainly Sindupalchowk and Dolakha are the most affected by the tremors of the
earthquake. We all know that Earthquake don’t kill people but the structures made without the
safety do. Here I want to present the brief methodology on how I will approach and conduct the
work after getting this job.

First month

1. Gain knowledge about the main cause of the losses over the areas, what kind of
structures were there before the earthquake and what kind of structures remained
safe after the devastating quake, whether the people of the area have sound
knowledge about what is earthquake and how can we minimize its risk or not,
Whether the previous programmes ran in these areas after the earthquake with
similar objectives were significant or not through reconnaissance and conversation
with locals.
2. Collect the ideas and knowledge about soil conditions, mechanism of earthquake,
materials locally available, structures that can be suitable on these areas by
reviewing the literatures, books and by making conversation with locals.
3. After collecting the detail knowledge about the topic I will start to develop the
structures that is
 Economic
 Earthquake resistant ( can withstand with only minor cracks in minor
earthquake, can withstand moderate earthquake without structural
damage and can withstand large earthquake without collapse)
 Ductile structures using local materials.
4. Make detail schedule plan for the future months

Second month

After deciding the type of structures suitable for the area, I would like to share the ideas with the
members of my crew and organize the programmes through which we can share people the ideas
about:

 What is earthquake?
 How to minimize the risk?
 How to build the earthquake resistant structures by using local resources?
 What are the things that we need to consider while making new dwelling houses?

So as to equip them with knowledge, skills and resources to rebuild their houses in the safe way
thereby reducing the loss of lives and properties in the future.
After making the detail study in the previous month and with the idea of the suitable ductile design
to resist the earthquake i would like to help the organization to achieve its aim of building owner
driven reconstruction in the earthquake affected areas. Shares the knowledge to the locals about
what is earthquake how to make earthquake resistant design and how to protect ourselves from the
damage caused by it so to equip thme with knowledge skills and resources

Third month

After sharing our ideas and knowledge with locals about earthquake and remedial methods to
minimize its effects, I would like to initiate the main objective of our project of building owner
driven reconstruction on these earthquake affected areas by following the codes and conditions
thereby reducing the possibilities of future devastating damages also ensuring the true victims gets
the assistance.

In addition to above things, I would like to monitor the our works to know whether it is going as per
the schedule or not and the objectives are fulfilled or not.

Fourth month

I would like to achieve all the objectives within end of third month as it is 4 month project. So on the
fourth month I would like to evaluate the works so as to know whether we have achieved our goal or
not within the time schedule we prepared. This can be done by:

 Collecting feedbacks from people.

 Confirming if the real victims got the assistance without work or not.
 Confirming whether the locals are aware about the earthquake and safety for it or not.
 Confirming whether the panic in locals due to the devastating earthquake of may 12, 2015
has gone or not.
 Collecting the information about the weakness of ours during the projects so we could
amend and launch stronger programme to assist people of any area with more efficiency.
