DAILY LESSON PLAN

Class 2 Al - Ayyubi
Date 12/03/2018
Time 1310 – 1410
Venue Classroom
Attendance /30

Topic : POLYGONS

Objective/Learning Outcome:

Students should be able to:

1. Determine if a given polygon is a regular polygon.
2. Find the axes of symmetry of a polygon.
3. Find the number of the axes of symmetry of a polygon.
4. Sketch regular polygons.
5. Construct equilateral triangles, squares and regular hexagons.

Steps of Activities:
1. The teacher reviews again the characteristics of polygons. Then the teacher
discuss the characteristics of regular polygons and the types of triangles and
quadrilaterals which are regular polygons.
2. The students will construct equilateral triangles using the compasses. Then
they will determine the axes of symmetry for the triangle. They will proceed
with the construction of a square of sides 4cm. and thus determine the axes
of symmetry. Lastly they will construct a hexagon from a circle of radius 5 cm
and determine its axes of symmetry.
3. The students will conclude the relationship between the number of sides of
the polygons and its number of axes of symmetry.

Theme /Learning Areas: POLYGONS II

Learning Objectives : Students will be taught to:

Understand and use the knowledge of exterior and interior angles of
polygons.

Learning Outcomes : Students will be able to:-

1. Identify the interior angles and exterior angles of a polygon.
2. Discover the formula for the sum of interior angles of a polygon.
3. Determine the sum of the interior angles of polygons.
4. Solving problems involving sum of interior angles.

Teaching and Learning activities:

Induction set
1. Recall the definition of a polygon.
 Teacher shows the students some geometrical shapes and asks them
to name the shapes.
2. Recall the definition of a regular polygon and irregular polygon.
 Gives example.

Activity 1
1. Recognizing interior and exterior angles of polygons.
 Teacher explains the definition of interior and exterior angles of a
polygon.
 Teacher explains the relationship between interior and exterior angles
of a polygon.
2. Recall shapes of polygons from subtopic.
 Teacher asks students to work in pairs.
 Teacher gives handouts (Activity 1) to each student to name the
shapes given.
 Discuss.

Activity 2
1. Group discussion and investigation how to derive formula of the sum interior
angles of a polygon.
 Handouts were given to each group. (Activity 2)
 Recall back the sum of interior angles of triangle.
 Teacher asks students to draw lines from one vertex to the other non-
adjacent vertices in each polygon in first handouts. (Appendix A)

Teacher asks student to get product of “number of triangles” and
“sum of angle in a triangle”.
 Teacher asks students to complete the table. (Activity 2)
 Ask students to record their findings through this activity.
 Discuss.
2. The sum of the interior angle of a polygon with n sides is (n - 2) x 1800.

Activity 3

1. Teacher gives examples of problem solving involving sum of interior angles.

(Appendix C)
2. Ask students to answer the questions.
3. Discuss.
Activity 1
Name the regular polygons below.

Activity 2
Name of Name of Number of Sum of interior
polygons sides, n triangles, angles

Topic : POLYGONS

Objective/Learning Outcome:
Students should be able to:
1. Identify the interior and exterior angles of a polygon.
2. Find the size of an exterior angle when the interior angle of a polygon is given
and vice versa.
3. Determine the sum of the interior angles of a polygon.
4. Determine the sum of the exterior angles of a polygon.
5. Find the size of an interior or an exterior angle of a regular polygon given the
number of sides.
6. Solve problems involving angles and polygons.

Steps of Activities:
1. The teacher draws a quadrilateral and use the diagram to explain about
interior and exterior angles. Hence conclude that interior + exterior angle =
180°.
2. The teacher draws a triangle, a quadrilateral, a pentagon and a hexagon and
divides each of the diagrams into triangles. The teacher explains about the
sum of all the interior angles for triangles and quadrilaterals. The students
will determine the sum of the interior angles for pentagon, hexagons and
octagons.
Hence conclude that sum of interior angles = (n-2) x180°.
3. The teacher draws a pentagon with given interior angles. A student will be
called out to write down all the exterior angles. The students will sum up the
total of the exterior angles. Hence conclude that sum of exterior angles =
360°.
4. The teacher discuss the size of the interior and exterior angles of regular
polygons based on the conclusion from step 2 and 3.
