Access to services Are ALL services necessary? ***
Kids getting help Social worker, etc. only here on certain days
Kids are getting help for reading during reading Kids have many services
People are flexible to try to make schedules work ** VIT - Can’t always do the time classroom teacher
would like
We try to identify real needs and address that Can kids get help for reading during reading etc but
first-communicate after instruction ***
Reading kids/math kids coming out of independent Para support for classroom work time - then pulled
work times during those same subjects for IEP goals *
Smaller groups of kids left in room to focus on Do we have too many pull out opportunities? *****
Many options Very hard to memorize the schedule when it’s Day
1/Day 3. (Idea - post it in class)
Don’t need to catch up kids if being pulled for 20 minutes of CORE (tier 1) for each grade level with
similar/same subject (reading help during reading) no pull out *****
Specialized services (meeting needs) Schedule mall groups first when doing master
schedules. Break the day into 5 minute increments to
find “lost” time. ***
Variety for those kids Orchestra/band need to be lower priority than core
academics - ? Limited time
Consistent continuum of service for kids Prioritize pull out needs: i.e. if a student is in SPED
services, they may not also do Project Think, I.I….;
wish they could do it all but it’s too much pull-out.
******
We provide a lot of services kids need. Middle of the year changes are hard to adjust to
We (adults and kids) are fortunate to have extra Block math and LA for each grade level on the
support. ** master schedule (like recess/lunch) *******
Social, science, health is good! Plan schedule at start of year as a whole staff * ?
Kids needs the support in small group. ** Blocked reading and math times for each grade level
- within the block is 1. Core instruction (tier 1) and 2.
Pull out time (tier 1, 2, 3) ************
?Everybody plan schedule @ same time in the
media center w/Sped too. All grade levels have to be
flexible with choosing times.
?Title 1 contracts start late
?Number of groups for WILSON and TITLE depend
on Fall assessment scores so hard to pre-plan for
how much time is needed for each grade level. Use
more Spring data so we know where to place kids in
the fall.
?Very hard to schedule grade levels with English and
Chinese don’t match (instruction times)
?Common prep across grade levels
?Day 6 schedule rotation
?SPED and RtI work to mirror Wilson times
?Spelling by cycle day rather than M-F
Reminders (one rings) ** Organize schedules for students who have multiple
appointments. *****
Parents aware of support and appreciate it. * All grade levels should be considered equally in
schedules. More flexibility on all sides. *******
Academic progress Lots of needs and not enough help (staff, time) **
Maintain pull out time during non-instructional time Idea - grade level pull out time. *****
(K) For example, playtime, snack time, PM, etc.
?SPED already starts with prioritizing pull outs during
these times and works from these. Issue is all VIP
classes are vying for these times with so many kids
to service, this doesn’t always work.
Rotate schedule
Flipped classroom *
-older kids
Maximize ?*
-morning meeting
-independent work time
-snack
?There are 100 speech kids - this is not possible
