Synopsis:
When Natalia, a rape victim, visits Assistant District Attorney
Samantha Burns to discuss her testimony, a horrible reality is
exposed about her rapist.

INT. LAW OFFICE - DAY

NATALIA sits at the desk of A.D.A. SAMANTHA BURNS. Samantha

enters with a file in her hand and approaches Natalia.

SAMANTHA
Natalia, thank you so much for
coming in. I can’t tell you how
much this means to us. You’re very
brave ...and you’re doing the right
thing.

NATALIA
Ms. Burns...

SAMANTHA
Please, call me Sam.

NATALIA
Okay, Sam ...there are other
victims coming forward, right?

SAMANTHA
Well, we haven’t been able to
persuade the others, yet. But if
they know someone like you is
willing to come forward, I’m sure
they will follow.
(beat)
You’re not having second thoughts,
are you?

NATALIA
Well, the police said the DNA
evidence was inconclusive.

SAMANTHA
Yes, that’s why we really need your
testimony. The detectives are still
digging.

NATALIA
What are your chances of winning
this case?

SAMANTHA
Our chances are pretty good. You
were able to identify him in a line
up, we have proof his car was
parked near your house, and we can
put him at the same bar on the same
night as you.

Natalia looks nervous as she looks down.

SAMANTHA
Natalia, are you okay?

NATALIA
I thought the DNA evidence would be
enough, or maybe the others would
come forward. I really didn’t think
I would have to testify.

SAMANTHA
Well, he didn’t accept the plea
offer, so we have to go forward
with a trial.

NATALIA
I can’t do this, Sam.

SAMANTHA
Please, Natalia. The trial won’t be
for awhile. We can offer some
protection.

NATALIA
No. I can’t do this.

SAMANTHA
Natalia. If he walks away from
this, he wins. And he’ll do this
again. There will be other victims.

NATALIA
Don’t get me wrong, Sam. I want him
to pay for what he did to the
others. But there’s ...

Natalia begins to sob.

SAMANTHA
There’s what?

NATALIA
I can’t handle this.

Samantha goes to her and holds her.

SAMANTHA
Pay for what he did to the others?

NATALIA
What?

SAMANTHA
You said you want him to pay for
what he did to the others, what
about what he did to you?

NATALIA
Please, Sam. Can we just drop this.

SAMANTHA
No. We can’t. What’s going on here?

NATALIA
Robert Walker ...is actually,
Thomas Wallace.

SAMANTHA
What are you talking about?

NATALIA
Robert Walker, he’s really Thomas
Wallace. He changed his identity a
long time ago.

SAMANTHA
Are you sure? How do you know this?

NATALIA
I was adopted. I came to New York
to find my birth mother. Well, I
found her. I met with her last
night.

SAMANTHA
And how does Walker fit into this?

NATALIA
Her name is Margaret Wallace. She
divorced Thomas Wallace 20 years
ago. She showed me pictures.
Robert Walker is my actual father.

Samantha takes that in as we...
