RE: JMU Symphony Orchestra Travel in Spring of 2018

To JMU Faculty:

The JMU Symphony Orchestra will be travelling out of town for concert on two different
occasions during the Spring of 2018.

The first trip takes place on Friday March 2nd when we present two youth concerts in
Lewisburg, WV as a part of a Carnegie Hall program called LinkUp. The JMU Symphony will play
to several hundred students from Greenbrier County, WV, many of whom have never seen a
live symphony orchestra before. Students will depart at. 6:30 in the morning and will return at
approximately 4:30 PM.

The second trip for the Symphony Orchestra takes place on Friday April 20 when we travel to
Virginia Beach in order to rehearse with students from the Governor’s School of the Arts based
in Norfolk for our joint performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No.2. Students will depart at
7:30 AM on Friday and will not return until app. 2:300AM on Sunday April 22.

The individual providing you this letter is a member of the JMU Symphony. All personnel are
listed below alphabetically by last name. Some students will only participate in the second trip
in April and that is indicated next to their name. The School of Music asks that you excuse the
members of the symphony from classes on March 2nd and/or April 20th and that you allow
them to make up any work or assignments missed, so that they can participate in these events.
