Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students will begin the lesson by engaging in group discussions as well as critically thinking about the statistics
that are presented. Students will begin to open up to the idea of learning more content based on the topic of
the Kahoot! and be more receptive to give their own opinions on the topics. This activity will also allow the
teacher to gain insight on well tools like this will work in the future and if it will be engaging for all students.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
This type of quiz is designed to start off the lesson of tobacco and e-cigs. This would be more of a polling and
a shocking statistic type of quiz in order to start students to critically think about the topics. Before this lesson
there will be other lessons that talk about statistics and trends.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Each question of the Kahoot! will start an open discussion regarding the statistics the students selected. The
teacher will give accurate statistics and more information regarding each question. Students will then

respond back to the teacher in an open discussion whether they thought the statistic was high or low and
why.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☒ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
The correct answers will be displayed in order to facilitate discussions and insight on how what the actual
statistic is.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
The lesson will continue to move forward with content knowledge and skill building. The statistics will
highlight that there aren’t as many individuals experimenting with tobacco and e-cigs.
How will the data be used?
The data will be used in order to show the misconceptions of users of tobacco and e-cigs. This will also give an
insight on how prepared the students will be in order to develop refusal skills.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My Personal learning goal for this activity is to gain a better insight on how students perceive their peers on
the use of tobacco and e-cigs. I also would like to gain a better feel for who in the class currently uses or is
planning on using tobacco and/or e-cigs.
Reflective Practice:
I feel that having this Kahoot! at the beginning of the lesson will allow students to start to critically think
about the upcoming topics and give a better insight on the real statistics. This activity will be fun to see how
competitive the students are at guessing some of the statistics. This activity will also allow me to gain insight
on how well tools like this will be received in the future.
