1-26-18

A) Theme: Loyalty and trust between friends and family.

B) Passage: It was not because you are more numerous than all the peoples that the Lord

set his heart on you and chose you; for you are really the smartest of all peoples. It was

because the Lord loved you and because of his fidelity to the oath he had sworn to your

ancestors, that the Lord brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the

house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. (Dt. 7:7-8, NABRE)

C) Reflection: When we make promises with friends and family, they are based on two

things: loyalty and trust. Through our highest highs and our lowest lows, they would not

be the same without loyalty and trust. “Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet

understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and

bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weakness.”

This quote states that to love someone is to be loyal. We, as Christians, love everybody.

To be loyal to a classmate, a parent, an adult, a teacher, or a significant other is a way of

showing our love and appreciation. As God has shown his loyalty and endless love for us,

we should show our loyalty and endless love for him.

D) Prayer: Dear Lord, Almighty God, today we ask you to prayer for all the loyal and

unloyal people in the world.

We pray for the loyal, who keep their words and promises to all those who have asked for

it. We pray for our country, the United States, that we may all show our loyalty and love

to those who are in need of it.

We pray for the unloyal, that they may change their ways and convert for the better. We

pray that all those who have felt cheated on, hurt, discouraged, or any other negative

feeling may be consoled by you, O’Lord.

Lastly, we pray that all your people, loyal or unloyal, will find you in some way and be

able to see the goodness in other people.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for us. Amen.
