Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students will use assistive technology to complete the project. For
example, they may use an iPad, or google translate if their primary language is not English, and they need
help understanding certain words.

Lesson idea implementation: In this kindergarten standard students will “create works of art emphasizing
one or more elements of art and/or principles of design.” The teacher will go over colors in a narrated
PowerPoint at the beginning of class. The visual display of colors will help students that may not be fluent in
the English language yet. After the students go over the powerpoint with the teacher, they will begin their
activity. The project may take up to two days to complete, depending on how much extra time the teacher
feels the students need to complete. The students will be assessed on their ability to understand key terms in
art. In, addition they will be assessed on their ability to explain their painting to their teacher, and how colors
can change the overall mood of a painting. Finally, they will be assessed on the completeness of their project.
This project allows students the freedom to express themselves, but also learn about art at the same time.
The project does not have a strict criteria that the students have to follow, and will allow them to develop
their own interest in the subject. When students develop their own interest in certain subjects they often
take more of an interest in it, and seek more knowledge about it. The students will have the opportunity to
search for inspiration using the class computers, or an iPad. At the end students can present their projects to
their classroom peers. Students will be handed grades at the end of the assignment.

Reflective Practice: This activity could help students develop an interest in art, and they may seek more
knowledge about it. This activity was used as an introductory activity to our class lesson about art. At the end
of the semester students may revisit this lesson again, and they will be hung on the class wall. The students
could use PowerPoint to make collages or cameras to take pictures and then upload the pictures to a
PowerPoint.
