LESSON TOPIC: Time for a Revolution! Project


Standards: 10.2.1: Compare the major ideas of philosophers and their effects on the
democratic revolutions in England, the United States, France, and Latin
America (e.g., John Locke, Charles-Louis Montesquieu, Jean-Jacques
Rousseau, Simón Bolívar, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison).
10.2.3: Understand the unique character of the American Revolution, its spread
to other parts of the world, and its continuing significance to other nations.

Write informative/explanatory texts, including the narration of historical
events, scientific procedures/ experiments, or technical processes.

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to explain the ideas and conflicts that led to their
chosen revolution and the results of that revolution by creating a
children’s book, graphic novel, or video.
DO-NOW: Students will be given time to complete the warm-up for the day. After
(BELL WORK) (7 five minutes, four students will be called on at random to answer.

MAIN ACTIVITY:
-Teacher: Review objective and agenda

-Students will make connections to what they are learning and why it is
important.

-Teacher: Walk around while students are working and listen to their

conversations to check for progress, comprehension, and that students are on
task. Teacher will meet with each group and offer help/suggestions as needed for
completing their final product.
-Students: Resource Manager will get task badges while students get into project
groups. Students will finish completing their children’s book, graphic novel, or
video. If students have finished their final product, Reporter will double check
the rubric to make sure all areas have been completed to the best of students
abilities. Group will then practice their presentations which will occur the next
day.

Resource managers will return Task Badges and students will organize desks.
Student’s will reflect on their work for the day and complete the Exit Ticket.

ASSESSMENT: Formative, informal assessment will take place as teacher walks around listening
to group discussions. Teacher will also check in with each group and see where
they are in the process of creating their final product and offer help/suggestions
as needed.

MODIFICATIONS: Students were put into rank-based groups so that students of all learning levels
and abilities have the opportunity for constructive peer feedback and aiding in
comprehension or mastery of the content. Through the use of complex
instruction students are given jobs and rotate these jobs each day which shows
students at all levels they have the ability to be successful in different areas of
leadership and participation.

MATERIALS: Task badges, Time for a Revolution! Learning Matrix, TFR! Research Graphic
Organizer, TFR! Storyboard Template, TFR! Rubric
TECHNOLOGY: Students will be using their chromebooks as needed. Students previously used
chromebooks to complete research graphic organizer. Learning Matrix with
examples and rubric are in Google Classroom for students to access.
