A message from the editor

Welcome to the first issue of the new Manarat

magazine, 'Manaratee'.

We hope that you'll be able to read some

enjoyable articles and also find out what is
happening in the school this term.

It's been a busy first term, with no mid-term

break, but that doesn't mean that there
has been a lack of activities. Every grade
has had trips, spelling bees, clubs and
other competitions and activities. There's also been some great
successes in our international standardised tests like the MAP test.

Every article has been written by a Manarat student, reporting about

Manarat student life, for a Manarat student audience. As this is the first
issue, there are not that many articles. I really want to see many more
articles in our next issue. If you're interested in becoming a 'Manaratee'
writer then please get in touch with me to join the reporting team.

Spelling
Bee
Hi, I'm Shazib and I want to share my
experience about a spelling bee that
took place approximately 4 weeks ago.

The first time I participated in a spelling

bee was 1 year ago in grade 5, when my
parents encouraged me to go to my first
spelling bee event ever. I felt excited
and scared at the same time.

"There were some words that I couldn't even pronounce"

Anyways, I was standing

on the stage with a few
other finalists, about 2 from
each class. One strong
opponent in my opinion
was Abdullah Younes. He
won a spelling bee in
Grade 4. My turn was
about to come, and I was
scared, but my mom told
me to stay calm. My turn came, and the words were pretty easy at first,
but the words started to get harder and harder. There were some
words that I couldn't even pronounce, but I knew how to spell them.

Issue 1 - F e bruary 2 0 1 8

One hour passed by, and

only 4 contestants were
left, including me and
Abdullah. I knew that I
was fully prepared and
confident in winning.
Abdullah was also
confident in winning.
There were at least 250 to
300 words that we were
being tested on. My friend Ahmad spelled a word wrong and he was
out of the competition. The same thing happened to Mustafa.

Now it was down to me and Abdullah. I didn't want to lose, neither did
he. The event was scheduled for one hour only, but we spent 2 more
hours until we finished. We got so tired, that a friend brought us a chair
and I sat down. Our Primary Principal (Mr Karl) kept coming and going
to check on us if we finished or not, and he was surprised to see us
standing there with confidence.

All of the
"All those hours of studying  inally paid off"
words
finished, and the judges didn't know what to do. Then, they finally
declared Abdullah and me winners of the Annual Spelling Bee
Competition. I won two years in a row, hoping to win next year as well.
The event finished, and all those hours of studying finally paid off.

This was an amazing experience and I thought that I could share it with
you.

Science Club
After countless years of waiting, Manarat Jeddah has finally started a
science club. It consists of the school's brightest minds, banded
together to conduct the most astute experiments the school has ever
seen.

The school recently held its first annual meeting for the science club.
Myriad students selflessly sacrificed their well-earned time to devote it
to the making of
this club,
Abdulrahman
Samer
confidently
displayed his
intellectual
prowess and
secured his
rightful position
as president of
the club. He
convinced lower
grades to regularly attend the classes with ambitious promises of
gratifying results from astounding experiments, our president took his
position with a humongous lead of ten votes, beating the close runner
up Abdullah Sohaib by a margin of 5 votes while the third party was
irrelevant.

The role of vice president is occupied by the bright student Abdullah

Sohaib. After achieving second place in the 2017 Science club

election, he was assigned to be

the vice president, he promised
riveting experiments for the club,
targeting all members especially
the lower grades.

We are looking forward to seeing

you at the next meeting, with
your mind stimulated and ready to solve baffling questions. Chemistry
related lessons will be demonstrated by the well renowned Mr. Yusuf.
The meetings will be held on every Thursday starting after the exams.
We implore you to seize this unique opportunity and attend future
meetings.

Field Trip
Abdussami Gul
Grade 6

For the field trip, the school

took us to Attallah Happy
Land. The school provided
comfortable busses. The
entrance was beautiful,
and the people were
polite. They provided every student with a card which was unlimited.
The teacher announced that every student must be ready to leave at
12:00.

Surf rider
It is the most popular and interesting ride in the park. It is located at the
North-East of the park. It is so high that you can see it from far away.
Many students and teachers were not brave enough to ride it, but
those that were, enjoyed it.

Services
They provided every student with a complete meal. It contained a
burger, some French fries, salad and juice.

The school thanks Happy Land for giving us a great tour.

Eating In Imran Rashid
Grade 6

The ALBAIK SALES are affordable in fact they are a good price, drinks
and CRISPY CRÈME are added as bonuses.

If you want to buy an item from ALBAIK then you will need to go in front
of, or next to the chemistry lab and there will be a group of grade 12
students and each one will have an item that you can choose. The
students will ask what is your name and class after you have chosen
your item, then the grade 12 students will come to your class and call
you and when you are called please raise your hand and he will come
to you and give you a token. That token will have the item that you
chose.

On Thursday come to the secondary basketball court where there will

be rows of items. Whichever item matches the item in your token then
go to that row. Give or show the 12th grade student your token and he
will give you what you chose. If you order multiple items such as
chicken burger and Pepsi then you need the token to buy both items.

Rules
1. PLEASE if you finish your food in the school then throw all rubbish in
the bin.
2. Do not waste any food or throw bits of food on the floor.
3. After eating in school, it would be better if you wash your hands

Faith Matters Manarat Jeddah

International School offers the
students an Islamic
Aly Shalaby
Grade 9B opportunity that no other
school offers. During Dhuhr
prayer, all the students of the school assemble, Primary and
Secondary, to pray Dhuhr prayer.

However, this is not the only opportunity they give us, but they also
provide us with a lecture after performing our prayer. This lecture serves
as an important reminder to all of us as it covers many aspects of our

lives, for example:

- How to perform your prayer correctly

- The interpretation of Surah Al-Kahf
- The interpretation of Surah Yusuf
- Answering student questions about Islam
- Clearing up misconceptions about Islam

We students and teachers have benefitted

vastly from Mr Shahzeb Latif's lectures which we all look forward to.

On the sports day in Manarat

Jeddah International, a
basketball tournament was
held. This match was between
classes 7C and 8C. This match
was known to be the most
exciting and the most viewed
one. This match was the
greatest message to the
viewers for what's going to
happen in the finals. As soon as
the match started 8C's Captain
Nasr took the ball and passed it
to Abdul Khader and went by
to score but missed. Nasr and
Khader are rated the most
valued players in the basketball
league. After the miss, Khader
got angry and went frustratingly
to score and dunked the ball
right in the centre and scored!

B' Ball
15

After that 7C took full control of the match but a while later 8C got the
ball and missed a few shots.

Just as 7C was about to score, Owais Ally fouled by double-dribble.

Hani then checked it to Nasr who was fired up and hooped in the
score!

After a while 8C brought Yusuf Mulla as a substitute. 7C's attackers Zain

Al-Halabi and Sami got the ball and were attacking excellently but just
then Nasr took hold and scored. After having the 9 minutes of play, 8C
had their first foul and 7C got 2 equalizing chances but missed them.

Then the play was paused due to the half-time break. The score was 3-
0. The match was started by 7C but due to a lack of defence Nasr
scored another hoop. The brain's of 7C was dazzled by how amazing
these guys played and it would take amazing effort to come back in
position. The second score was the best score of all matches held on
that day it was a 2 point score from the captain Nasr from 3 meters
approx. After this score team 8C had to just defend while on the other
side they had to retain what they had gained. It took a while for the
match to end because of all the effort they exerted but unfortunately
they hadn't scored anything and the match was ended.

This match could have been won by 7C but due to alack of defence
and positioning this match was ended 6-0. This showed the viewers
what the final was going to look like and this is how the team got to the
top of the league table and stayed there the whole time. As a result
8C won the basketball league.

After a period of two years, Class Dojo has returned to MJIS.

It has been great to see the enthusiasm that all of our students have in
working together to get as many points as they can. Every week, we
displayed the results of every class and the leaderboard changed so
often that we really didn't know who would end up winning.

In the end, 5A gained the most points and as

a result will be rewarded immensely over
the next two weeks. They will be taking
part in a 'fun hour' and having a class
party. Mr Coutet has said that there will
be no need to bring any sweet food to
the party as a large cake will be
provided by the school.

The top students were also honoured

this week with a special certificate.

All points have been reset so that every

class and student has the same chance to win this
month as well.
