MANUAL FOR MULTIPURPOSE HEAD 175E
This manual is important to read for also those who have previous knowledge
of forest machines.
Given values, i.e. weights, lengths etc. are instructional values and they may
vary according to settings, equipment etc.
All rights reserved. Settings, equipment, manuals etc. can be changed without
further notice.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND PRECAUTIONS
Instructions given in this chapter are to be obeyed always when using the
multipurpose head.
Obey also the orders of the base machine- and crane manufacturers.
The operator must also obey local regulations and work safety orders.
Before usage, familiarize yourself with the manual and the structure
of the machine.
Adjust the seat, controls, armrests etc. as well as possible. Keep the
windows clean for maintaining a good line of sight.
When starting the machine, make sure that no-one is nearby the
crane or the head.
When starting the machine, grapples may close or open, the head
may tilt to felling or loading position, depending on the controls.
• The head is meant only for cutting and loading wood. All other means
of usage are absolutely forbidden!
Check daily the condition of the hydraulic hoses and the parts in case
of any wearing. Make sure that the hydraulic hoses are correctly
placed.
Always park the machine in flat ground, place crane and the head for the place they are
meant to be (i.e. transport rack) or straighten the crane, open the grapple, tilt the head to
felling position and put the head down to a steady place, put brake on, turn the engine off
and switch off the main power.
All this is important because the valves of the crane are not absolutely tight, some oil can
flow to the tank and some unintentional movements of the crane can occur.
MAINTENANCE
The driver of the machine does the daily checking and lubrication.
If special maintenance, repairing and adjusting are needed, always contact the
manufacturer or the salesman.
Driver or owner must take care of the maintenance. Basic procedures are e.g.
tightening the bolts and screws.
If any other than original spare parts are installed to the head, the warranty
becomes void.
Always reserve a container for oil and other chemicals that can be hazardous to the
environment.

MAINTENANCE
Always work with patience and consideration when maintenancing and repairing
head. Avoid working alone.
Always stop the engine, activate emergency stop, switch the main power off and
take ignition key of the lock when applying maintenance, if otherwise not mentioned
(for example pressure measurement situation).
Use necessary safety equipment, e.g., safety gloves, safety glasses, helmet, safety
footwear and ear protection.
Always use safety gloves when working with the cutting blade.
If you are not familiar with the structure or functions of the head, always ask advice
from manufacturer before maintenance or repairing.
Cleaning and greasing of the head is prohibited when the engine is running.
Make sure that you have all necessary instructions, manuals, tools and other
necessary equipment when applying the maintenance or repairing to avoid any
damage.
Do not use any loose clothes, hanging sleeves or belts or jewelry etc. when working
with the machine.
Always lock the head to loading position if maintenance or repairing has to be done
when the head is in loading position.
NEVER WELD OR GRIND THE HEAD IF YOU DO NOT HAVE APPROVED FIRE
EXTINGUISHER AVAILABLE.
DANGER-ZONE
Danger zone of the head is 50 meters. This minimizes the damage from falling trees.
Being near the head is forbidden when the engine is running. This minimizes possible
damage from starting functions.
The operator is responsible for the machine to not cause any physical injuries.
Before starting to work, make sure that no-one is inside the danger zone. Stop
working immediately if someone enters the danger zone.
When felling trees, observe the direction and speed of wind and the trees position.
Working near electric cables always poses a dangerous situation. Remember the
safety distances.
MAINTENANCE- AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
If the hydraulic functions become powerless, you should first check the amount of oil
in the hydraulic system and the base machine’s pump pressure. Low pressure may
be caused by e.g. oil leaks. Leaks can be caused by e.g. worn-out seals. The relief
valve may also leak. Check the pump pressures first.
Never touch the grapples or the cutting blade by hand when the engine is on.
If the operator leaves the proximity of the machine, the head must be supported
against the ground or lowered into a possible transport rack.
Head can affect the standing stability of the base-machine. Other affecting things are
sloping of the ground, quality of the terrain, position of the load or the crane etc.
If the felling has been started and the head cannot finish the procedure, the machine
must be moved outside the danger-zone, because the tree may fell and cause
serious damages. Never leave an “almost-felled” tree in the forest. When the head is
repaired/otherwise working, fell the tree.
Make sure that clothes or other hanging parts do not grab the handles when
entering/exiting the cabin.
Keep the cabin’s floor clean and free from loose objects.
Before entering road, make sure that the handles can move freely without problems.
When working with the machine, the operator is often alone. A cell phone is
recommended to keep with for safety reasons.
NISULA FOREST OY gives their 175E multipurpose heads the following warranty:
The damaged part must be returned within 2 weeks from the new one
being delivered. Otherwise the part will be charged.
5. The warranty time of the replacement parts ends at the same time as
the warranty of the original head.
1
The screw 2 adjusts the pressure
needed for the head to tilt up (to felling
position), and the screw 3 adjusts the
2 pressure needed for the head to tilt
down (to loading position).
3
By turning the adjustment screw clockwise (tightening) the tilting function needs more
pressure to actuate. If the pressure needed is too much, the head does not tilt fully or at all.
By turning the adjustment screw counter-clockwise (loosening) the tilting fuction needs less
pressure to actuate. If the pressure needed is too little, the head starts tilting too early.
After the adjustments have been made, tighten the locking nuts labeled L and reattach the
cover plate. Make sure, that the tightening doesn’t alter the adjustments screws position!
