1. PREAMBLE
This report is prepared based on the field observations recorded for the Routine Pile
Load Test for P6-PR5 carried out at location P6, CH 31+986.5 km near Attibele
junction started on 09 June 2008 and ended 10 June 2008 as per the method
statement submitted for approval. This document is to be read in conjunction with the
method statement for the Routine pile load test by Maintained Static Load Method
submitted earlier.

2. TEST METHOD:
a) Maintained Static Load Test Method: The Maintained Static load test shall be
carried on the working piles constructed as per the working drawings for the regular
piling works to find out the design assumptions does match with the site practices on
randomly selected single pile of uniform diameter.

The following is the procedure for the Maintained static load test where the load
applied in increment of 20% of the design load up to the failure or 1.5 times the
design load, which ever is advance.

Incremental loading shall be carried out at each stage by applying a series of vertical
downward incremental load and each increment being of about 20 percent of design
load on the pile. Each loading shall be maintained as per the criterion given below:

• Dial gauge reading taken at 15 minutes interval & maintaining for 30/60/120
minutes during loading and unloading respectively.

• Dial gauge reading taken at 15 minutes interval for the first hour and every
thirty minutes thereafter when maintaining for 24 hours at final load.

• Change of load should proceed only if the settlement of the pile is not more
than 0.1mm in first thirty minutes or 0.2mm/hour or till 2 hours.

• Readings were recorded before and after applying increment/decrement


load.

Test Load i.e. 1.5 times the design load or the load at which the total displacement
equal to 10 mm shall be maintained for 24 hours.

Loading and unloading procedure is as follows:

a. Take level reading of the support of the reference beams and test pile datum.
b. Load to 20% of design load and maintain for min 30/60/120 minutes
c. Load to 40% of design load and maintain for min 30/60/120 minutes
d. Load to 60% of design load and maintain for min 30/60/120 minutes
e. Load to 80% of design load and maintain for min 30/60/120 minutes

• Calibration of certificates for the instruments is already attached with


the method statement.
• 28 days average cube compressive strength for the test pile is of
37.65 Mpa.

5. Load Test Record:

Observations for the load test and graphs are enclosed herewith for reference.

6. Observations:

The Total settlement at 1.5 times design load is 5.953 mm


Elastic settlement at 1.5 times design load is 6.01 mm
Plastic settlement at 1.5 times design load is 0.365 mm
