Conditional Simulation for Mineral Resource Modelling

May 4 - 6, 2017 | Lima, Peru

Are you ready to go beyond estimation and its limitations? Want to model the
underlying variability of your deposit and understand the uncertainties in your
deposit?

Join us for this 3-day workshop on Conditional Simulation for Mineral Resources
Modelling!

Overview

This course is designed to provide a practical and relevant introduction to the

application of Conditional Simulation for the evaluation of Mineral Resources.
The theoretical materials of the course offer an understanding of the potential of
Geostatistics beyond the limitations of deterministic estimation. Using real-life
data, the practical exercises instruct the participants on how to create mineral
resource models that do not suffer the biases typical of estimation and can provide
an assessment of the range of local and global uncertainty in the grades of a
deposit.

For those interested in updating their Datamine Skills, or learning this software,
Datamine Peru offers a complimentary one-day training session on the new Studio
RM software and its enhanced capabilities.
Course Topics

The main
Th i ttopics

d iin thi
this course are:
• Data preprocessing for simulation: Declustering,
EDA, Normal Scores Transformation
• Variography with Normal Scores transformed
data (mostly as a refresher on variograms)
• Simulation set-up: cell size, search strategy and
parameters, multigrids, kriging type, how many
realizations?
• Simulation runs and checks including histogram
and variogram reproduction
• Post processing of realizations, Etype estimates,
ore/waste proportions and grades, upscaling of
realizations, Checking post processing results.
• Use of simulated model for resource classification
Who Should Attend?
and ore/waste delimitation
• Advanced topics (time permitting): Cosimulation This course is designed primarily for resource
of two variables. Overview of other types of geologists or geoscientists already involved in
simulation (available outside Datamine) including creating mineral resource models and reports. Mining
Sequential Indicator Simulation, Truncated engineers interested in understanding the impact of
Gaussian Simulation, Multiple Point Simulation grade uncertainty in the mine plans will also benefit
greatly from this training.

Course Benefits

• A complete understanding on how to build simulation models

from the raw data to reporting of simulation results.
• Characterize the local and global grade uncertainty of their
deposits
• Build mineral resource models with increased global accuracy
• Validate the simulation models using various criteria
• Use simulation results to assess the capability of interpolated
model to predict the ore grade and tonnage

Course Format

May 3, 2017: Complimentary and optional one-day training

on Datamine Studio RM. This training is strongly encouraged for
all the course participants that are not yet familiar with this new
software platform.

Ms. Guiselle Valderrama, from Datamine, will lead this

complimentary session. Free trial license provided by Datamine.

May 4 to 6, 2017: Conditional Simulation Workshop

The workshop will be divided into theoretical and practical sessions.
The practical sessions will reinforce the concepts imparted during
the theoretical sessions and will show how these concepts and ideas
are applied in the industry using a dataset from a real deposit. The
theoretical sessions will be delivered by Dr. Leuangthong, while
Dr. Machuca will lead the practical exercises with the support of
resource geologists from SRK Peru and Datamine specialists.

Each participant will receive a temporary license for Datamine Studio

RM software for the duration of the course that will be installed
on his or her portable computer. Among the various commercial
mining software, Datamine Studio is one of the most popular and
incorporates well developed Conditional Simulation algorithms.

It is important to stress that this course is open to any practitioner

interested in learning about Geostatistical Simulation. You will
equally benefit from the theoretical and practical sessions.

Spanish translation during lectures will be provided by

Dr. Machuca, as required.
