Less homework

How much homework is too much? Homework is meant to be a review of what you

learned in a particular class. It is also meant to be improve your test scores. Homework is also

meant for you to learn life skills. But homework doesn’t always help you out. Kids receive a lot

of homework leading to negative effects like stress and lower grades.

One of the reason why kids should receive less homework is because homework causes

stress. In the website letterstothepresiden.org it states “American teenagers are getting too

much homework leading to unfavorable impacts mentally and physically such as spending less

time with the people who are most important to you in life.” When things like this happen you

get stressed because your seeing post or pictures your family is posting while there having fun

but your stuck in your room trying to do all your homework. Students are also stressed out

because in the statement from the cite gogalegroup.com it states “The proportion of students

reporting that pressure to get good grades creates a problem for them increased from 62

percent in 2001 to 79 percent this year, according to the report, which was issued by the Horatio

Alger Association of Distinguished Americans”. As stated the percentage of kids increased this

year because they are being pressured because you have homework from all these classes and

all the homework is to be turned in the next day. Another reason why homework causes stress

is because in the cite factualfacts.com it states that “Some examples ….. asking pupils to hand

write ….. pages 113 to 139 of a textbook on The French Revolution. Such remedial homework
will do nothing to improve pupil’s scores in exams or up their grades.” This statement means

that sometimes the homework teachers give you have no use for your life so all that time you

spent on homework you could of been using to hang out with friends, or family, playing sports,

or being in a club. So how much homework is too much?

Another important reason why kids should receive less homework is because it lowers

test scores . In the survey that the university of phoenix took it states “kindergarten through fifth

grade teachers report assigning an average of 2.9 hours of homework per week, while sixth to

eighth grade teachers report assigning an average of 3.2 hours” This means Teachers usually

assign homework to help improve your test scores but when you have hours of homework you

get lost and start to not even try and when it comes to a test you fail. In this cite today.duke.edu

it states” They argue it can lead to boredom with schoolwork, since all activities remain

interesting only for so long.” This statement means that kids do not focus as much in class

because having a particular subject for a long period of time gets you bored and you don't pay

attention so when you have a test you have no idea what to do. In this next cite

hufftingtonpost.com it states an “educational psychologist at Sydney University, data shows that

in countries where more time is spent on homework, students score lower on a standardized

test ”. This means that once again homework that teachers give out does not improve your test

score. So how much homework is too much?

Although school might have some negative effects it still has some positive effects. One

positive effect it has on us is by understanding something more. The cite

school-for-champions.com states “Although, you can ask your teacher questions if you do not

completely understand the principles or facts involved, you still need to apply the information to
learn the subject and turn it into knowledge.” This means that without homework kids will kids

will not learn as much and get enough practice to remember what they learn so it's more likely

when they do a test there grades will go down. Secondly, taking away homework will cause less

time that you spend with your family. According to the website tech-nology.com it states

“Secondly, it reduces the amount of time that children could be spending with their families.”This

means if students get less homework they won't be able to spend as much time with their family.

For example, when students ask their parents or siblings for help they interact with them and

taking away that from them is not right. So all though homework may cause negative effects it

can cause some positive effects in a person's life.

As you read above you now know that homework causes negative effects like stress and

bad grades. So how much homework do you think kids should receive know? In conclusion,

teachers should give out less homework. As you read the first reason above you know that

stress is not good for kids and kids should have a calm mind. Furthermore, kids should also not

have less homework because all the time you spent on homework does not improve your test

scores.
