Philosophy Paper on VAPA

The visual and performing arts are a very important and necessary piece in elementary curriculum. The

different art forms nurture creativity by engaging students in a process that encourage development in self-esteem,

self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation. Through art you would start to find that students begin to adapt

and respect others work and thoughts. They develop problem-solving, social, and communicative skills when being

involved in the arts. When students participate in these arts they gain tools that are necessary for understanding the

future experiences that they will have to endure.

As a teacher, you will have subjects that will ignite you and your passion to teach these subject areas will

be evident in the way you teach your lesson. When I teach visual and performing it will be a struggle for me to be

passionate in this area. I’m grateful that the readings showed me that the arts are a vital part of a students’

educational journey and the different ways I’m able to incorporate it for my classroom. I am not limited to teaching

one form of art, the possibilities are endless. God has gifted each of us with a talent. My future students will hold

those gifts and not be aware of them yet, it may be through these lessons that they find their path that God has

designed for them. It may be where they find comfort, security, and hope. That is why my view on visual and

performing arts has been altered to believe and support the arts and all that they have to offer our future

generations.
