Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing
Opportunity in your classroom: I will use the lesson plan on Kids Gardening to plant a
sunflower garden at the school and observe the plant life cycle as it grows throughout the school
year. We will be putting our observations in the student’s individual blogs on Kids Gardening and
having class discussion throughout the year. At the end of the year we will evaluate our findings
and share them on the Kids Gardening online community.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a
classroom? Computers and internet connection.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of
them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high
LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and
often beyond their school: We will be collaborating with others outside of our
school system via the Kids Gardening online community.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original data
and or producing original products as a result of engaging in the project): The
students are creating their own data each day as we observe the sunflowers
growth in their individual online blogs.
c. Higher-order thinking: Having the students evaluate their year-long research
while considering the plant life cycle involves higher order thinking.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about
their product: They will be publishing their findings on the Kids Gardening
website to an appropriate audience.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why?
This is level 3 of technology implementation called infusion. This is infusion because we are
incorporating technology as the students compile their data which promotes higher level
thinking.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your
district’s Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies? We would make sure the students are
only operating under the teachers profile because they are not 13 years or older, the teacher
would closely monitor the students as they engage with this technology, and parents and
administrators will approve the site before using it in the classroom. If approved, we would then
have a lesson on proper online etiquette for the students.
