The document discusses the risks of teenagers under 13 having access to social media. It argues that social media poses three main dangers: 1) Contact with unknown adults who could cheat or kidnap children, as evidenced by 280 "grooming" cases in Colombia in 2017. 2) Exposure to harmful tendencies like the "Blue Whale Game" which led to suicide attempts. 3) Lack of responsibility in posting content that could be used for cyberbullying or affect future jobs. Additionally, excessive social media use can distract from schoolwork and deteriorate family relationships as teens spend more time online than with family. For these reasons, the document concludes that parental control of social media access is important to protect teenagers from risks.

“Internet has been a boon and a curse for tenagers”
J. K. Rowling Internet has been on of the most important events in the history of the human being, It has modified every aspect of our lives, and it has affected people from every ages, since the youngers, to the elders. Naturally, Social media has been a boon for the people, there are connections from every parts of the Word and the opportunities are everywhere. However, those benefits are not for everybody, not everyone can take advantage of that; only responsible people can do it. Because, inside the internet, there are many dangers. This essay will argue about that teenager under thirteen should not have access to the social networks because it is dangerous, they have no the enough responsibility and they have no the enough control of their time. First of all, it is danger. The main reason why the social media is danger is because teenager can get in touch with any unknown. You as a parent, you would not like your children talk with other adults secretly because you are conscious of many cases where a child were cheated or kidnaped by an adult. For instance, in the 2017 in Colombia the police registered 280 cases of “grooming” (RCN RADIO), that is the crime of when an adult convinces a child through a social network to get erotic material. Another reason why the social media is danger for kids is the hazard of harmful tendencies. For example, in Colombia around one thousand people played “the game of the blue whale”. That was a game who foster the childs to harm themselves, and last instance, to commit suicide. For the last for the two previous reasons you have considered that leaving the kids alone in the social media is a danger habit. The second point is that kids have no the enough responsibility to respond by their actions in the social network because the decision of posting something in media is very serious; if you post something in the media, everybody is going to see it, and once done, there is no turning back because someone could take a screenshot and save it. For instance, the above mentioned implies that the children are exposed to be bullied by something they post and they did not realized that information could have been used against ther. On the other hand, kids may post something that they regret in the future. For instance, some naughtiness photos they post could affect their future work life. To sum up, child under 13 are not prepared to analyze each risk of post something in the media, and they could be not prepared for the consequences like being cyberbullied, or losing a future job. The last point is that teenager lose many time in the media. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are distractors especially if teenager have them in their cell-phones. This point could affect their academic life; they could be spending more time in the media than doing their homework. For instance, according to CNN, the adolescents in the United States spent an average of nine hours per day using the media and that is more of the time they spent in school. On the other hand, if teenagers spend too much time in the social networking, the spent less with their family and friends. this could deteriorate relationships to the children of parents. For those two reason is important that parents control the access of their children to the social media. To conclude, By themselves, the social networks are not beneficial or harmful, there are just a tool. The problem are the people who are inside that media. This does not mean that the people who use the social media is bad; this means that through media, kids are exposed to many risk. To sum up, the main risk are that inside the media, there could be dangerous people; the kids could post thing they could regret and finally, they could being be wasting many unrecoverable hours of their life.
