Problem statement
Consider water flow through a venturimeter. Various dimensions of the venturimeter are given
as D1=D3=0.026 m, D2= 0.016 m, L1=0.02 m, L2=0.156 m, L3= 0.02m. Length of the
converging section, throat and diverging section are 0.04 m, 0.014 m and 0.102 m respectively.
Using ANSYS Fluent software, solve the problem for inlet velocity of 1.9 m/s, 4 m/s and 6
m/s. (1) Determine the average velocity at the throat for all three cases. (2) Show the (i) plot of
stream wise centreline velocity versus length of the venturimeter, (ii) plot of stream wise
centreline pressure versus length of the venturimeter (iii) Coefficient of discharge for all three
values of inlet velocity.
Boundary condition
Inlet velocity of 1.9m/s,4m/s and 6m/s.
Based on the velocity given we need to find whether the flow is laminar or turbulent by
calculating the Reynold’s number.
