2 INTRODUCTION
2.1 Purpose
The purpose of this engineering specification is to provide designers and vendors
with the minimum technical requirements for purchase, design, inspection,
testing, shipment, and documentation for indoor, non–classified areas of
Flooded–Cell Lead–Acid Batteries for use in industrial installations owned by
PDVSA.
Since PDVSA has decided to adopt the PIP (Process Industry Practices)
documents: ELSAP11 “Design and Fabrication of Flooded–Cell Lead–Acid
Batteries For Electrical Stations” and ELSAP11D “Data Sheet for Design
and Fabrication of Flooded–Cell Lead–Acid Batteries For Electrical
Stations”, as an integral part of the Engineering Design Manual (MID), the
requirements in this document are additions or modifications to the ELSAP11 and
the section/paragraph numbers and the associated headings used in this
document correspond to the ones used in ELSAP11.

Planté Plate design is also acceptable.
4.2.10 (Addition)
Bidder may propose a different specific gravity according to his internal standards
at 25°C ambient temperature. In such cases, Bidder shall indicate the specific
gravity on the Data Sheet.

4.3 Battery Racks

4.3.2 (Addition)
In case of room space limitations, Buyer shall specify the available room space
(length, width, height) on the Data Sheet, section “OTHER REQUIREMENTS”
