Change in power: Prime Minister Hein of Giddis
leaves politics after 9 years. Omar Cisneros
succeeds him as new Chancellor.
Hein of Giddis
Prime Minister Hein of Giddis (BEL) will end
his political career on December 31st, 2017.
Since the foundation of Flandrensis, 9 years, he
has been Prime Minister! As chairman of the
Nationalist Party of Flandrensis (NPF) he won
5 of the 6 elections and has had a great
influence on the development of our
micronation. Hein made this decision because
the combination of Flandrensis and his
personal life became too difficult, especially
during the past 2 years, he didn’t have enough
time to fulfil all his duties. Grand Duke said:
“Many people underestimate the role of Hein
and how much work and time he put in
Flandrensis, he truly earns a place in our
history books”. Of course, Hein will remain
active in the Flandrensian community.

Omar Cisneros
Count Omar Cisneros (USA) joined
Flandrensis in 2014 and has previously served
as Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Minister of
Domestic Affairs.
In 2017 he represented Flandrensis at the
MicroCon Convention in Atlanta, USA. His
extensive knowledge and experience in the
micronational community, coupled with his
work as a Specialist of Education and
Community Partnerships, makes him ideal for
this position.
As Chairman of the Grand Ducal Cabinet he
will be the first advisor of the Grand Duke.
With the next legislature in 2018, Grand Duke
Niels will delegate many powers to the
Chancellor. One of his first tasks will be the
formation of a new Grand Ducal Cabinet.

40 new Flandrensians
In 2017 we welcomed 40 new people in our
community. In total there are 461 Flandrensians
over 54% different nationalities. 33% of them are
female, the biggest community lives in the
United States with 149 citizens and 47% of all
Flandrensians have English as their native
language.
Financial report published
The National Bank of Flandrensis published
their financial report of 2017 to the Facebook
group. The National Bank had an income of 871,
22 FL and invested 1.128,44 FL in new flags,
coins, stamps, … These investments are planned
on long term and the shop will be available in
the begin of 2018. The Bank starts in 2018 with a
budget of 475,32 FL.

Protesting the Antarctic Ice Marathon: shocking reaction from the director
On October 24th, 2017 our micronation sent a formal protest letter to R. Donovan, the director of the
Antarctic Ice Marathon. Antarctica is one of the only places on earth not inhabited by humans on a
regular basis, yet more and more people (mostly tourists) visit the Antarctic. From our view, only
scientists have a reason to visit Antarctica. It is immoral, selfish, and potentially destructive that people
are paying €16.000 to run a marathon in Antarctica. The “green footprint” of this marathon will have a
huge influence on the already fragile ecosystem. In that letter our Government asked the Global
Running Adventures to take their responsibility and end future events on Antarctica for the sake of the
local environment.
Some weeks later the director reacted on the
Facebook page of Flandrensis. First, he claimed
that he had no connection with the organization of
the marathon, but he posted the Flandrensian
letter publicly on his own profile and his name
was on the official website. Confronted with this,
he reacted in a very shocking way that people
wouldn’t expect from a director of such an
organization. After continue posting messages
about genocide and offensive behavior the admin
had to blocked him and several other marathon
runners on Facebook.
Grand Duke Niels tried to explain the offensive reactions: “For them it’s the adventure of their live and
then you have someone who called it a stupid idea … But their reaction proves that we do our work
and we need to continue to raise attention for the protection of the Antarctic”. The Government already
contacted several official organizations and agencies to raise more attention for events on Antarctica.
