● The USLP has three global goals namely help more than a billion people
take action to improve their health and wellbeing, reduce the
environmental footprint of our products and enhance the livelihoods of
people as we grow our business.
● “The company continued its focus on improving the profitability of the
Annapurna business (branded commodities) by driving efficiencies across
the value chain,” HUL said [1].

AGARIYA COMMUNITY
● Living in Kutch region for centuries.
● Involved in salt farming.
● Agariyas live in fringes of LRK and migrate to LRK in the month of October –
Migration pattern due to salt cycle.

Reasons of vulnerability of Community


● Financial Constraint: Perpetually trapped in debt cycles.
● Market Constraint:
○ Unaware of the market price of their produce.
○ Inability to afford transportation cost.
● Inadequate Support and extension services :
○ No value addition at primary production level leading to low returns.
● Lack of skills and awareness (Works only for 7 months in a year):
○ No diversification of income generating activities due to low skill sets.

KutchMitra - Intervention Details
● For Agariya Community
○ They will be getting good salt farming techniques and technology from
HUL
○ Industrial salt farming will be done by them that will ensure continuous
quality supply

● For HUL
○ Continuous demand will be done by HUL for salt
○ Hostel provision for students of community in urban centre of Bhuj
○ Capacity building program for salt farmer
○ Medical support for salt farmers

● For Agariya Community
○ Ensure 7 months continuous and sustainable livelihood for Agariya
Community
○ Ensure no effect of migration on their studies
○ Ensure employment of the community workers for balance 5 months
○ Ensure vulnerability reduction in at time of health hazard due to unduly
working conditions
● For HUL
○ Use the CSR drive as part of branding of Annapurna
○ Make production of salt cheaper and can adopt low-cost leadership
strategy, without compromising on quality
○ Can increase the efficiency of salt supply chain as salt plant of Annapurna is
in Kheda, Gujarat
○ Revenue from HUL’s food business can be increased which is currently
going on downside
