o Ligaments of the ovary:
ovarian ligament (round ligament of ovary): remaining of the upper part of the
gobernaculum ovary; extending from the medial margin of the ovary to the upper end of the
lateral wall of the uterus
suspensory ligament of the ovary (infundibulopelvic ligament): part of the broad ligament
between attachment of the mesovarium and lateral wall of pelvis, contains ovarian vessels
and lymphatics

Mesovarium: peritoneum, attaches the ovary to the broad ligament of uterus
rectouterine pouch (Douglas): peritoneal recess between rectum and uterus
uterovesical pouch: peritoneal recess between uterus and urinary bladder
vagina: A muscular tube that extends upward and backward from the vulva to the uterus; 8 cm; anterior and
posterior walls are normally in apposition
o Female genital canal, excretory duct of menstrual flow and part of birth canal
o Upper part is pelvic part; lower part is part of perineum
o vaginal portion of the cervix: upper end is pierced by the cervix, projecting downward and backward
into the vagina
o Blood Supply: vaginal artery (from internal iliac), vaginal branch of uterine artery
o Venous Drainage: Internal iliac vein
o Lymphatics:
Upper 3rd: external and internal iliac nodes
Middle 3rd: internal iliac nodes
Lower 3rd: superficial inguinal nodes
o Nerve supply: inferior hypogastric plexus
o fornices of the vagina: area of the vaginal lumen around the cervix is divided into 4 regions

o Relations:
Anteriorly: upper part to the bladder, lower part to the urethra
Posteriorly: upper 3rd rectouterine pouch, middle third to the ampulla of rectum and anterior
fibers of levator ani, lower third to the perineal body
Laterally: upper part with the ureter, middle part to the anterior fibers of levator ani, lower 3rd
to the urogenital diaphragm
