This text is for questions 36 to 38

In this world there are so many species of fish. Some of

them are very beautiful, some are ugly and some have
unique shapes. One of the well-known fish is the mackerel,
which is a name for some different species from the
Scombridae family. The characteristics of mackerel are a
slim body, cylindrical shape and finlets on the dorsal and
anal fins. The lenght of the king of mackerel
(Scomberomouscavalla) may reach up to 66 inches (1.68m)
and the females can spawn1,000,000 eggs at once.

Mackerel are unique,fast-swimming fish. They swim

witha lateral movement and have a strong caudal fin for
swimming. They also never jump above the water, except
when they are being chased by another fish. If they are
captured, they will hit our fingers quickly to free themselves.
They need a lot of oxygen to stay alive, especially when the
water is warm.

Fishermen believe that mackerel always swim in

schools when migrating. These species are found easily in
all tropical oceansand usually live offshore. Spanish
mackerel (scomberomorus maculates) can even be caught
from bridges and piers or harbours.

Mackerel are the prey of shearwaters, tuna dolphins,

whales, orca, seagulls, marlins, and sharks.
Additionally, humans also hunt them for the meat. Mackerel
are quality fish and they are also well-known as targets of
fishing in the sea. In India, mackerel, especially Rastrelliger
kanagurta are commonly caught. However, mackerel easily
spoil in tropical zones. For this reason, mackerel is best
consumed soon after capture. The only way to preserve
mackerel is to cure it.

36. What is the topic of the second paragraph?

A. When best to consume mackerel.

D. How to cure mackerel.

B. Where mackerels can be found.

E. How mackerel swims.

C. The characteristics of mackerel.

37. According to text above, what is true about

mackerel?

A. It preys on shearwaters, tuna, and dolphins.

B. It can only be caught away from the shore.

C. Curing is not the only way to preserve it.

D. It is best consumed soon after capture.

E. It is solitary when migrating. .

38. “The characteristics of mackerel are a slim body,

cylindrical shape . . .”

The underlined word means ...

A. Shaped like a cube

D. Shaped like a cylinder
B. Shaped like a cone
E. Shaped like a pyramid
C. Shaped like a sphere
