Definition of Text Procedure


"Procedure text is a piece of text that give us instructions for doing something."
Procedure text is a text that gives us commands or instructions to do something.
"Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a
sequence of actions or steps." Procedure text is a text designed to illustrate how something is
accomplished through a sequence of actions or steps. So it can be concluded here, the procedure
text is a type of text that aims to describe a command or instruction about how something is
achieved in the order or the correct steps. And usually the title of the text procedure begins with
"How to ....". Examples such as "How to Use a cup of tea", "How to Use the Computer", and
many other examples.

Some of the characteristics of the text process are:


 using Simple Present Tense (S + V1)
 imperative shaped / command form,
 using action verbs, eg make, take, boil, cook,
 using temporal conjunctions, eg: First, then, next, after that, last

Purpose of Procedure Text


Procedure text itself is made to have a specific purpose for the reader. The purpose of the text
itself is communicative. "The social purpose of procedure is how to do it through sequence of
steps which enable the reader to achieve the goal."

The social purpose of the procedure text is to show how something is done through a sequence
of steps that allows the reader to reach the goal. "The purpose of procedure is to tell the reader
how to do or make something through a sequence of actions or steps." The purpose of the

Types of Procedure Text


Procedure text in English has several types. Here are 3 types of procedure text that you should
know.
 Procedure text that describes how something works or how to use instruction / manual
operation, for example, how to use computer, how to record video. how to use plaroid
camera.
 Procedure text that instructs how to perform certain activities, for example, how to make
a noodle, how to dance, how to play basketball.
 Procedure text related to human behavior, for example, how to succeed, how to live
happily, how to be a good person.

Generic Stucture of Procedure Text


Procedure text has a general layout scheme or generic structure. The following generic stucture
of procedure text:
 Goal: provides information about the intent and purpose of the procedure and predicts a
conclusion.
 Materials: contains a list of materials or materials needed to perform a procedure or
steps.
 Steps: a list of instruction / activity sequences to achieve the objectives in the correct
step sequence.
 Result: Result of a series of steps that have been done.

Definition
Narrative text is one type of English text that aims to tell a story that has a series of
chronological events are connected.

Aim
The Purpose of Narrative Text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story. Narrative text
aims to entertain the reader about a story or story.

Type
There are many types of narrative text. Narrative text can be imaginary, factual, or a
combination of both. Here are the types of narrative text: fairy stories, mysteries, science
fiction, romances, horror stories, adventure stories, fables, myths and legends, historical
narratives, ballads, slice of life, personal experience.

Generic Structure
The generic narrative text structure focuses on a series of proposed stages to build a story. In the
narrative text the stage covers:
1. Orientation
(Introduction) where character, setting, and story time are set. Usually answer which
question? When? Where ? For example: Once upon a time, there was a wolf lived in the
forest.
2. Complication or problem
Telling the beginning of the problem that caused the crisis (climax). Complication usually
involves the main character.
3. Resolution
The end of the story is the solution of the problem. It needs a resolution of the problem.
Problems can be solved can be better or worse, happy or sad. Sometimes there are some
complications to be solved. This adds and maintains interest and tension for its readers.
4. Reorientation / Coda
is a closing statement of the story and is optional. Can contain about moral lessons,
suggestions or teachings from the author.

Once upon a time there was a girl name Cindrella. She lived with her bad step-mother
and two step-sisters. She had to do all the household chores.
One day the king invited all the ladies in the kingdom to go to a ball (pesta dansa) in
the palace. He wanted to find the Crown Prince a wife.
The step sisters went to the ball that night with their mother. Cindrella was left alone.
She cried because she actually wanted to go to the ball, too.
Just then a fairy godmother came. With her magic wand, she gave Cindrella a coach
(kereta), two horses and footmen. She also gave Cindrella a lovely dress to wear the ball and a
pair of glass slippers. She told Cindrella to come home before midnight.
At the ball, Cindrella danced all night with the Prince. The Prince fell in love with her.
At midnight, Cindrella ran home. Unfortunately, one of her slippers slipped off at the door. She
did not have time to put it back on. The Prince was sad as he could not find Cindrella again that
night.
The next day, the Prince and his men brought along the glass slipper. They went all over
the Kingdom to search for the owner.
After searching for along time, finally, they came to Cindrella’s house. The slipper fit
her. The prince was very happy to find Cindrella again. They got married and lived ever after.

Understanding Descriptive Text


Before discussing about the definition of decsriptive text, it's good if we know in advance what
is meant by descriptive. Descriptive or in Indonesian is called 'descriptive' is an adjective that
means 'picture'. While the text or 'text' has a meaning of writing. So, Descriptive Text is a text
which describes something, such as person, animal, thing, or place, in a detailed. That is,
descriptive text is a text that describes something, like people, animals, objects, or places, in
detail or in full. The word describes here refers to the properties or characteristics of something
we will describe.

Descriptive Text Objectives


Looking at the meaning of Descriptive Text above, we have been able to know the purpose of
Descriptive Text itself. The purpose of the Descriptive Text is to describe something, such as
person, animal, thing, or place, in a detailed so that the readers or the listeners are able to
understand what we are able to imagine the thing we describe even though they have not seen it

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text


Descriptive Text has its own linguistic structure. This is what distinguishes descriptive text
from other text types in English. Here is the language structure (Generic Structure) of
Descriptive Text:

1. Identification
Identification is the first part of the Descriptive Text located in the first paragraph. The function
of Identification is to introduce things or objects we want to describe to listeners or readers.
Another function of Identification is to inform listeners or readers that the thing or thing we are
about to describe is special and different from the others. Identification is a paragraph
containing a little explanation of the object or thing we want to describe before we mention the
properties or characteristics of the thing or thing in the next paragraph.
Example: If you will describe the Volkswagen Combi car, you will write in the first paragraph
(Identification) as follows:
I have a new car. The car is branded Volkswagen. This car is the kind of car I've been wanting
since I was 12 years old.

2. Description
Description is the next part of the descriptive text. This section is usually written in the second
and subsequent paragraphs. The contents of the Description section are the properties or
characteristics of the objects or things that we describe and are a continuation of the first part
(Identification). The properties or characteristics of the thing or thing are special characteristics
that are inherent or present in the objects or things that we describe and are not common things
that can be encountered in any object that is similar to what we describe.

Yogyakarta is one of the foremost cultural centers of Java, the seat of the mighty Javanese
empire of Mataram from which present day Yogyakarta has the best inherited of traditions. The
city itself has a special charm, which seldom fails to captivate the visitor. Gamelan, classical
and contemporary Javanese dances, leather puppet, theater and other expressions of traditional
art will keep the visitor spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in arts such batiks, silver and leather
works. Next to the traditional, contemporary art has found fertile soil in Yogya's culture
oriented society.

Yogyakarta is often called the main gateway to the Central Java as where it is geographically
located. It stretches from Mount Merapi to the Indian Ocean. There is daily air service to Yogya
from Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali as well as regular train service and easy accessibility by road.
Yogyakarta is commonly considered as the modern cultural of Central Java. It is a very lively
city and a shopper's delight. The main road, Malioboro Street, is always crowded and famous
for its night street food-culture and street vendors. Many tourist shops and cheap hotels are
concentrated along this street or in the adjoining tourist area such Sosrowijayan Street.

The key attraction of Yogyakarta is 'Kraton' (the Sultan's Palace), the centre of Yogya's
traditional life and despite the advance of modernity; it still emanates the spirit of refinement,
which has been the hallmark of Yogya's art for centuries. This vast complex of decaying
buildings was built in the 18th century, and is actually a walled city within the city with
luxurious pavilions and in which the current Sultan still resides. Yogyakarta is also the only
major city, which still has traditional 'Becak' (rickshaw-style) transport.
