Introduction
Ulead Video Studio 9 is an easy to use video editing software that allows even the
novice of movie makers to produce a professional project complete with sound, titles,
text, still images, overlays, and transitions. For assisted editing, Video Studio 9 includes
a Movie Wizard for automated movie making, a DV-to-DVD Wizard for transferring
tapes to disc, and automatic music analysis and soundtrack generation.
STEP 1:
Before you start, create a new folder in your network account that will hold all your video
files, audio files, and images. This will be known as your “working folder”.
Move any files (video, audio, stills) into this folder so everything you are going to use
within your slide show/movie are being pulled from the same location.
Welcome Screen
The program starts up with a simple Welcome screen, offering the three main
applications:

Select one of the video editing modes below that best meets your needs from
quick and easy to a masterpiece production:
Video Studio Movie Wizard: ideal for users who are new to video editing. It
guides you through the movie production process in three quick, easy steps.
Setting Preferences
Project settings determine how your movie project is rendered. Rendering is the
process by which VideoStudio converts raw video, titles, sounds, and effects into a
continuous stream of data, which can be played back in your computer.
Project preferences serve as your template for previewing your movie projects.
Preferences can only be changed while in the Ulead Video Studio Editor mode (not from
the Wizard).
2. When the Preference dialog box opens, do the following under the General Tab:
• Change the Working folder option to the folder you created in your
network account. Click the dropdown arrow button to navigate to your
network account to choose the folder.
• Check Record directly from CD: Allows you to record an audio track directly
from a CD.
STEP 4: Close program, reopen, and choose Movie Wizard (or choose the
Wizard under Tools from the menu bar)
MOVIE WIZARD
If you are new to video editing or you want to quickly make a movie, you can use the
Movie Wizard to assemble video clips and images, add background music and titles,
then output in the final movie as a video file, burn it into a disc, or further edit the movie
in VideoStudio Editor.
Click Insert Images to add still images. (You can create a photo
slideshow if you choose to only add images).
Tip: Click Library to open the media library that contains video clips
and still images that come with VideoStudio. Click and drag your
selection to the Media Clip List OR use the Add to Media Clip List
button. You can add your own video or images to the library by clicking
the folder button
Step 5: Using the steps above, insert 4 images or video clips for a practice
movie. If you do not have any files to use in your network account, navigate to
the District Wide Public Drive and use the images in the “Ulead Workshop” folder.
2. The video and image clips that you selected for your movie are added to the
Media Clip List.

5. To preview the clips, select each clip in the Media Clip List and use the Jog
Slider and Navigation Panel buttons. When trimming a clip, drag the Mark-in
and Mark-out handles to select the desired start and end points of the clip.
STEP 6: Using the steps above, try your hand at previewing your clips,
rearranging their order, rotating the images, etc.
Templates are an easy way to jazz up any movie by applying a theme template that
goes along with your movie content. Each template provides a different theme, which
comes with preset start and ending video clips, transitions, title and background music.
Time to Save!!
Note: If you accessed the movie wizard from within VideoStudio Editor mode, the
above button will not appear and you will have to save from the File Menu when you go
back to the editor.
For Home Movies, specify the following options in the Duration dialog box:
For Slideshow templates, specify Smart Pan & Zoom in the settings dialog box.
Smart Pan & Zoom automatically focuses the pan and zoom motion to important
parts of the image like the face.
5. Click to change
text-formatting options (font,
size, color, etc.)
Note: Make sure that your background music is 30 seconds or longer if you want to
fit the video to the music. If the music duration is less than 30 seconds, the music will
not be looped leaving the remaining video without any background music
9. Use the Volume slider to adjust the volume of the background music with respect to
the video’s audio. Dragging the slider to the left increases the volume of the
background music and decreases the volume of the video’s audio.

the movie, mark a clip (that you do not want to include in the show), replace the
existing title, format the font, and either remove the existing background music,
or replace using one of the provided music CDs.
2. Navigate to the location of where you want to save the movie file, type in a name,
and hit save.
