Introduction

Ulead Video Studio 9 is an easy to use video editing software that allows even the
novice of movie makers to produce a professional project complete with sound, titles,
text, still images, overlays, and transitions. For assisted editing, Video Studio 9 includes
a Movie Wizard for automated movie making, a DV-to-DVD Wizard for transferring
tapes to disc, and automatic music analysis and soundtrack generation.

STEP 1:

Starting a New Movie Project (creating a “Working Folder”)

Before you start, create a new folder in your network account that will hold all your video
files, audio files, and images. This will be known as your “working folder”.

Move any files (video, audio, stills) into this folder so everything you are going to use
within your slide show/movie are being pulled from the same location.

STEP 2 – Open the Program

Welcome Screen

Open the program by double clicking on the desktop icon.

The program starts up with a simple Welcome screen, offering the three main
applications:
wennerr Page 3 11/16/2007

Select one of the video editing modes below that best meets your needs from
quick and easy to a masterpiece production:

DV (digital video)-to-DVD Wizard: allows you to capture video, add a theme

template to it, then burn it into a disc.

Video Studio Movie Wizard: ideal for users who are new to video editing. It
guides you through the movie production process in three quick, easy steps.

VideoStudio Editor: gives you the full editing features of VideoStudio. It

provides you total control over the movie production process, from adding clips,
titles, effects, overlays, and music to making the final movie on disc or other
medium.

Step 3: Select VideoStudio Editor (in order to set your preferences)

Setting Preferences

Project settings determine how your movie project is rendered. Rendering is the
process by which VideoStudio converts raw video, titles, sounds, and effects into a
continuous stream of data, which can be played back in your computer.

Project preferences serve as your template for previewing your movie projects.
Preferences can only be changed while in the Ulead Video Studio Editor mode (not from
the Wizard).

1. From the File menu, choose

Preferences.
wennerr Page 4 11/16/2007

2. When the Preference dialog box opens, do the following under the General Tab:

• Uncheck the Relink Checking

option

• Check the Show message when

inserting first video clip…. option
(this enables a prompt message
when it detects that an inserted
video clip’s properties don’t match
with the current project settings.)

• Check Show startup screen option

(allows you to choose between the
Wizard and VideoStudio Editor
options when program opens)

• Make sure the Use default

transition effect option is selected.
Click the dropdown arrow button to
choose the transition effect (this will automatically place the same
transition between each of your image or video clips.)

• Change the Working folder option to the folder you created in your
network account. Click the dropdown arrow button to navigate to your
network account to choose the folder.

Click on the Edit tab:

• Change the Default inserted image/

clip duration option: specifies the
default clip length for all image clips
and colors that will be added in your
video project. Unit of time is in
seconds.

• Change the Default inserted transition effect duration option: specifies

duration of the transition effect applied to all clips in your video project, in
seconds.
