Required:
1. Determine the wind pressure on the windward and leeward sides as well as total
wind pressure on the building.
2. Total load/ft at each floor level and the Total base shear.
3. Overturning moment (OTM) at each floor level and total OTM.
4. Calculate maximum along and across-wind accelerations.
Comment whether the building is safe and comfortable to occupants under dynamic
wind gust effect.
The external pressure or suction on the building surface is given by the equation:

Assignment No. 3 : Wind Pressures (NBCC) (30-Story Building in Toronto)
If the wind speed NBCC - wind analysis V is in m/s, the design pressure ‘q’ in kPa, is
obtained by using a value of C = 650 x l0-6.
Detailed Procedure:
H= 823 ft = 250.85 m
1 foot = 0.3048 meters
1 mile = 1 609.344 meters
1 mph = 0.44704 meters / second
V = 110 mph = 49.1744m/s
Exposure A: The exposure is defined as open, level terrain with only scattered
buildings, trees or other obstructions and open water or shorelines. Ce for a given
height (z) is given by:

This will vary with the height of the building, where z will be the height of the floor.
